Guardians of Order gets Song of Ice and Fire RPG license

While I hope it's a great product I don't know what can be done with it. There is limited magic and practicaly zero monsters.

Are you kidding? The book is full of monsters!
They just all happen to be more or less human.

Playing in the Game of Thrones world will be very different from playing standard D&D, that's true. You're more likely to be caught up in political intrigues than you are in exploring a dungeon. That's not necessarily a bad thing, unless you can't get out of the explore-the-dungeon mindset.

I have to say I'm unhappy with the choice. D20 simpily does not have the gritty realism to portray ASOI&F. They should have given it to Steve Jackson Games for their GURPS liscense. Does anyone know anything about the Tri-Stat system? How about the company Guardians Of Order.

I have to disagree and say that I like that Martin's books will be translated to RPG form, but I have to say I would have liked to see it be through WotC rather than a different publisher. I thought for sure WotC would pick it up since there was a second article coming. Oh well, all we can do now is wait and see how they turn out. I hope that this publishing company will also put out a series of modules that are not directly tied with the main characters of SoIaF and let them lead their own destiny.

I am optomistic but even if it is not the best d20 rendetion, we still get lots of maps, background and art. I will at least get my money out of it :D

It's kinda warm down here in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph right now. Let's hope they don't lose inspiration.... :)

Well I think it is great news. I loved what they did with SAS and D20 and I thought their D20 work was highly underrated. Its rules were clear, concise, and they made sense.

While I don't really care for the Tristat system, their implementation of d20 was brilliant. I thought their rules for most things were far superior to D20 Modern. Their combat rules made sense and worked. Plus, they had a sections devoted to designing superhero games which were not only inspiring, but really showed they understood the genre. I also loved the gaming creedo at the beginning of the book, and I make my players recite it before each session (well not really, but I did print it out for each of them). Plus they had some other great RP ideas and tips... Plus they had...

As far as the HP thing, you can adapt it to make it gritty with ease. Just check out some of Mongooses posts on what they are doing with their B5 license.

I only have one small trepedation, and that is that I hope they don't follow the SAS precedent of making a Deluxe Tristat version in color, and the D20version in B&W. I know they want to support their own system, but it is just plain not fair! Either make them both color, or both B&W... please?

I can't wait. This is the best news!

I honestly was sort of hoping that there would end up being a GURPS book for it, since that would mean a good source book that could be easily transfered to any system. I hope GoO can provide the same.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of tri-stat ( its not bad, just not my cup of tea) and while i love d20, I don't know how well the system works with the Song of Fire & Ice. It will take a whole lot of modification to fit well.

Oh, I'm also not excited about GoO publishing source books for each novel. I could just go skim through each book if thats the case. It seems to me that there was enough of a completed story arch (with many, many, loose ends) to make one book out of the first three novels. I much prefered the way the WoT d20 book covered the first 6 novels ( maybe one day, should the line not be dead, they'll cover the next 900 ;) )

This is, of course, only my opinion, and I realize I'm just a lurker with a low post count, but I felt like sharing my feelings on the subject. :D
