Guess What?! NC Game Day VIII is September 10th!

Rel, while I'm thinking about it, has anyone yet asked for permission to borrow your battlemat for the morning game? If I could get use of it for my morning game, it would save me having to carry mine to Raleigh. If you have already promised it, or if you plan to have something pre-drawn on it, however, then I withdraw the request.

Alas, the big, double-sided battlemat had an unfortunate encounter with some markers that turned out to be more permanent than previously suspected. These days I'm using large sheets of 1" grid paper from the office supply store. To be honest, I'm starting to think I might not buy another battlemat.

The cool bit about the paper (24"x36") is that I never erase it. If the party comes back to a location, I don't have to redraw anything. And I can draw everything I need up front. I drew every single map that I needed for GenCon before leaving the house, which saved a lot of time during the sessions.

Needless to say, you're welcome to grab a couple sheets of this paper for your Spycraft game.

I'll probably bring mine anyway to be safe, but thank you for the offer!

Sorry to hear about the demise of the mat, though. When you wrote that, I was reminded of Monte Cook's recent comments about "The Sean K. Reynolds Memorial Wall of Force" in his livejournal.. :D

Did you see the new "Flip Mat" that Steel Squire was sellign at GenCon? You can write on it with Sharpies and other perminant markers, and it comes right off! http://www.steelsqwire.com/prod01.htm
JoeGKushner reviewed it here: http://www.enworld.org/reviews.php?do=review&reviewid=2492782

Interesting. Thanks for the links, CL. But actually I really mean it when I say that I might not go back to a regular battlemat. I really like being able to pre-draw multiple set pieces when necessary and revisit them without having to re-draw. And for $14.95 for 50 sheets of this paper, it might be years before that adds up to the cost of a new mat.

Oh, I know, I was just pointing out the usefulness of one of these new mats if you have had one ruined with perminant marker. The one I use has had marker, nail polish, wine, and cate puke on it, and I managed to get all of them off with no adverse effects. But if I ever do need a new one, I'm either getting one of these or a set of Tact-Tiles.

That's a slogan worth Steel Sqwire's time to market: "Immune to marker, nail polish, wine, and even cat puke!" :D

Man, what kinds of games are you running?!

There were ping-pong balls and candles involved as well...

A friend of mine used to run games involving Lazer Tag Units and Glow-in-the-dark LEGO pentagrams. Remind me to tell you about it at the Gameday. :D
