As an optional rule, sure. I have no desire for gun powder in my D&D. I just don't like it as a flavor thing.

It would be cool to have the info there, in case I decided to do some kind of short campaign with guns available.

I'm okay with having it as an option in the game, but not necessarily core. I've only had actual firearms in one short campaign; usually blackpowder only exists for mining or siege devices in other campaigns. It's rare, expensive, and alchemical; it's creation does not follow real-world formula. In fact, it required the regular hiring of adventurers to raid the lairs of red dragons... for dung. :)

Just wanted to point out that there was some Greyhawk deity who had paladins with revolvers... can't remember is name... going wiki it

haha found it... Murlynd.

In the new playtest report, there is a slight reference to gunpowder...in the game, some goblins ignite a bunch of "powder reserves" in a ship's hold, which blows the ship apart.

Now I admit that it is a bit of a stretch, but it is possible that gunpowder could make it into the 4E core rules (either the PHB or the DMG.) How does everyone feel about that?

I currently run Ptolus which has guns/powder/etc. In that campaign setting I'm fine with it. in some others not.

Guns and gunpowder have their place in the rules, specifically the DMG. Leave it where the DM can make the call based on their chosen setting.

I voted No. But I'd be all for it in a supplement and wouldn't have a major issue with it in the core. I'd certainly prefer it not be an assumed thing.

The results of this poll have really surprised me. First, I am surprised by how evenly-distributed the results are, and second, I am surprised by the majority vote. I thought that those of us who wanted gunpowder in 4E core would be in an overwhelming minority.

I know that polls are notoriously unreiliable. Even so, I hope that WotC takes this one into consideration.

I just want guns because all the cool ships for pirates need cannon to make any sense. I've got no problem at all with saying that castles and well-equipped military forces in D&D should be wheeling out field pieces, bombards, and the like - suddenly something like "Against the Giants" becomes really, really cool.

I've also got no problem with handing out easy to use, non-complicated, guns-as-crossbows rifles/carbines. As long as they're a little less cool/easy to use than bows they're just competing for the same slot as a crossbow...and wizards with double-barreled sawed off shotguns as backup weapons = way cooler than crossbows.

Goblins and kobolds with hand-grenades? A.w.e.s.o.m.e. Warforged with gunpowder feats? Too cool. Building the gatling golem? Priceless.
