Or maybe we all have different tastes. It's cool to not like it, but clearly there are a bunch of us who loved the story and are stoked for the RPG. (And is there something wrong with being a fan of something cool? Aren't we all just a bunch of D&D fanboys?) Move along please.

Moving along, there's been a bunch of speculation that the RPG will flesh the Halo universe out more... this is mostly what I'm looking forward to (rather than the rules per se).

I think the thing that appeals to me is the idea that the humans have been thrown into this holy war but have no idea why. They're still pretty new to space, and are totally outgunned -- making for some cool dramatic combats.

Also, the antagonists (the Covenant) are fanatical but not one-dimentional - because of their spiritual depth. The mystery surrounding their attack on humans (as well as something ancient that they're searching for on human worlds -- alluded to in Fall of Reach) should make for some great stories for gaming sessions.

I'll stop now, but did I mention that I'm stoked? :D

I am not even considering the plot of the game as a factor in how good it is, nor your skill in single player campaigns as a gauge for your skill in the part of the game that is actually playable to me, which is multiplayer. That's just how I evaluate games though, FPS or RTS or anything else, HALO or Warcraft or Soul Caliber.

Also, UT '03 still doesn't have physics like HALO. Like I said, check out the warthog video if you haven't seen it before.

I agree that the RPG is more likely to sink than swim, but the game is most definitely not mediocre. Oh, and calling people fanboys is a bit much, considering the overriding opinion on HALO is that it's still one of the best FPS games out there. Microsoft bought the company that made it just to have it for XBOX, afterall. I'm definitely not a fanboy, since I a). never waste money on consoles, and b). rarely play FPS games. You can call me a Warcraft fanboy if you want though.
