Gwendilyn, 7th level character (title change)

(dark humor)

Ok, we all know the drow are nasty and superior to all other races. Anyone who is anyone plays a drow!
So, drow start the game with 5 extra feats, to reflect their supermen and superwomen status. Drow females start with 6 extra feats! :]

Nah, they aren't. However, Anabstercorian would say they are tasty. ;)

I think the distinction between a min/maxed character who is very effective within the rules, depending on what rules are used in a game, and a broken character is important. I have seen some min-maxed characters and ones that were broken.

Mind you, I think a DM has a right to say no to a player.

As for Flaws, they may make for a character who has a lot of benefits, but the Flaws are supposed to even them out. So, it may not be any significant difference in the overall power of a character with many flaws and a standard character.

It depends--a true min/maxer will take the flaws that hinder her the least and carefully choose feats that benefit her the most, thus gaining a good deal. For instance, a wizard or psion who isn't planning on using ranged-touch spells can pretty safely take Murky-Eyed (the one that makes you roll miss chances for concealment twice and take the worst roll) since she is unlikely to encounter very much meaningful concealment at low levels when she may need to resort to physical attacks and by the high levels, she won't need to care.

Well, ok. I see that it is LEGAL to create these characters in 3.5E.
It's not likely to happen ... but it's legal.

When I was 12, everyone around me was into high level characters and min/maxing.
I daren't think WHAT would have happened, when you combined teenaged imagination and enthusiasm, with Anything Can Be Done rules, with plenty of time to create characters at 5th level who eat Ao for breakfast, Io for lunch, and Paladine's Father for dinner.

But it, at the very least, would have been interesting.

What it means, in practical terms, is that your DM could throw one heck of a nasty curve-ball at your party.

The quickest road to a broken character is to create it at high level.

Feats and skills that seem necessary when a character just barely survived 2nd level to make it to 3rd tend to disappear from characters created at higher levels, replaced with earlier completion of feat-chains.

Consider, for example, a Wizard. With low hp, Toughness would look mighty tempting at 1st or 3rd level. By 12th, it is no longer necessary (or, arguably, even worth considering). Create that Wizard at 12th level, and I can almost guarantee that you will not see Toughness taken.
