Hackmaster

Does anyone play Hackmaster? I've got the chance to play at a local game store. The rules seem easy enough. I've met the DM and he seems well versed in the mechanics. Just looking for some input. Thanks.

We do! We'll, we're just getting started. We finished up our preliminary character creation, and will start next week. The combat system looks like fun and we're looking forward to kicking the tires on this system. The books are a blast to read, well laid out, and organized. The setting is rich in detail. Of course, I'll have more to say after we've been playing to for a bit (it takes time to learn a system and then to "get into it" before I can make much more of an assessment). We are very enthusiast about the game thus far. What we've read is well thought out!

Hiya.

Yes, me and my group do...we play "4th Edition Hackmaster". Not constantly, but it is one of the "lets play this!' games...which typiclly ends up turning into a mini-campaign lasting months to a year or more. One thing is for certain in that game...it definitly encourages campaign-style play. You can do "one offs", but making a character is (or at least usually is) a fairly envolved process.

As for the 'new' version ("Hackmaster Basic" and "Hackmaster"), I own them but as of now, don't hold much hope for us playing it. Combat seems interesting...second-by-second accounting...and some things are likewise interesting, our group just *really* likes the detail that HM4 gives us (even if we ignore half of it...it's nice to know its there if we want it :) ). So far, the "new" HM isn't living up to that. All told, maybe the future supplements (class and/or race books) may fill in all the meaty goodness that oozes from HM4.

Thanks for the input. The date of the game has not been set yet. The GM is having trouble finding a time that works for all involved. Looks like it may be a monthly game.
As to what edition it is to be, I'll have to check. But everything I've read seems interesting. Coming from the Pathfinder/DnD/GURPS, background it looks like fun. I'll keep you guys posted if you care.
Peace.
