Half-Celestial Rog 1/Mnk 8 - Help

Yes, he can fly at 100 feet. I'd suggest going pure Monk, by the way. You aren't going to be very effective as a Monk if you only have 7 or 8 levels in it. The Monk is one of the classes that's best suited staying single classed, unless of course you want a PrC. Also, Stunning is nice, but it's not essential.

There are plenty of feats out there that would be a good addition to your arsenal, so it really depends on what type of character you're going for here. Is he supposed to be fast and brutal, quick and subtle, strong and tough? I would suggest Flyby Attack instead of the Spring Attack chain, by the way, if your DM allows it.

A few things I realized last night:

- Monk speed does not affect flying speed, so my Fly speed will be 60 ft. Oh, well, it's still pretty fast. Does anybody know of an item or Feat to increase Fly speed?

- Flyby Attack does incur attacks of opportunity from movement (unlike Spring Attack), but of course with my massive Tumble, it shouldn't matter, right? So I can skip Mobility and Spring Attack and just get Flyby Attack (which gives me any partial action, not just an attack...so I can do useful things to aid my allies while flying). My new feat selection will probably be: Dodge, Great Fortitude, Flyby Attack, Expertise, Knock Down.

- What you said about "unless of course, you want a PrC" gave me an idea. I looked through Sword and Fist and I think Drunken Master and Gladiator would both fit my character concept quite nicely. (well, Gladiator doesn't work as well from an RP perspective, but from a mechanics perspective it does) They're also both easy to qualify for. So I think what I'll do is:

Rog/Monk/Monk/Monk/Monk/Monk/Monk/Monk/Monk[campaign begins]/Rog/Rog

and then proceed as a Drunken Master or Gladiator, depending on what I want when I get there. As long as I take Great Fortitude, it'll be very easy for me to qualify for either one.

This assumes, of course, that my DM goes with the original +3 ECL and not the new +4 ECL in Savage Species (which none of us have yet). The +4 ECL will really wreck everything because Monk Level 8 is so much better than Monk Level 7, and I won't be progressing as a Monk in game (due to the alignment thing). However, he gave a TON of free house rule bonuses to the Aasimar and the Tiefling, so perhaps I can plead leniency on the ECL thing.

Thanks!

Bracers of Sure Striking

I see that you have an amulet of Might Fists, which would grant you an enchancement bonuses to your unarmed attacks. +2 is 24,000. Why not a bracer of Sure Striking, which would cost you about 4000 gp for the pair? Then you could use the 20,000 for upgrades to that? The Sure Striking would allow you to bypass that -/+2 DR you are so worried about.

Not a bad idea.

I'm a little worried about losing my +2 enhancement bonus (which is good against everyone, not just critters with a DR over +2), but I'll have to crunch some numbers tonight to see what works out best.

Not a lot of critters have a DR higher than +2, so it's basically a tradeoff between "I'm good at fighting most things and useless against things with DR +3 or higher" and "I'm a little worse at fighting most things but can at least hurt those few things with high DR."

I plan to do a lot of tripping and other "support" functions in combat (fly behind my allies' opponents to give them a flanking bonus, etc.) so I may just settle for "helping" when we face critters with a high DR.

Ooh...I just realized that I have Bracers of Armor +3 and a Ring of Protection +1. I'd have to give up the Bracers of Armor and I can't afford a Ring of Protection +4 to make up the difference. Hmmmm...maybe not just yet...I've reached a pretty decent compromise between defense and offense (I think) and maybe I shouldn't throw it out of whack just to account for the few critters with DR +3 or above...
