A prospective PC in my undersea campaign wants to try a half-dragon turtle PC. While there is a half-dragon template, it doesn't take creatures such as the dragon turtle into account. The half-dragon example in the MM uses a red dragon, which have no innate shape changing skills but who could access Polymorph Self via their ability to use sorcerer spells. So, to circumvent that issue, I will have the dragon turtle polymorphed into a humanoid race and mind blanked, by a covey of sea hags using their combined Polymorph Other power.
The dragon turtle is listed as Dragon (Aquatic). Yet, unlike the black, green, bronze, and gold dragons, the dragon turtle is not listed with Water Breathing as a special ability. Therefore, I assume that the dragon turtle is similar to a sea turtle and not a water breather. The crocodile and porpoise are also listed with the aquatic subtype, but they cannot breathe underwater either.
So, considering the hags to be a particularly malicious lot, they transform the dragon turtle into an air-breathing humanoid, hoping it will subsequently drown. Along comes a suitable water-breathing humanoid of the opposite sex to the rescue and viola! A water-breathing baby half-dragon turtle arrives.
What would you choose, for the water-breathing parent; elf, scrag, merrow, merfolk, locathah, or something completely different? Considering the player was looking for something brutish, I'm envisioning either the complexity of a half-dragon (turtle)/half-ogre (merrow) or a half-dragon (turtle)/half-troll (scrag).
