Definitely. I played a half-dragon paladin in one of our campaigns right after the template information was released and didn't find the character to be unbalancing in any way. Truth be told, I rather found that this PC lagged behind his partymates in a number of critical aspects but I liked his background and unique features.

I'm fine with players running characters of any plausible (balanced) type in my games.

Earned through the Dragon Disciple PrC? Yes.

Just start off with the template? No. Well, let me qualify that - for PCs, no. For NPCs, etc? Sure, if it'd be appropriate.

After some experience with them as playable PC classes.

I'm personally at the No stage. Until I build them with racial levels, in the style of Arcana Unearthed/Evolved.

That's the only way that it will work for me. Personally.

And so far I haven't sat down to work out the Hybrid nature into racial levels, it's not an availability in my homebrew.

Yes, but not as a product of interbreeding. I find it more likely that dragons would want "shock troops" in their image. The dragons would hang back and let the lesser race do the dying when possible.
What he said. I've never automatically associated half-X templates with X playas.

Wow, a lot of responses to be sure.. anyway, the reason I asked is because one of my players plays one... half drow half shadow dragon (he's playing with racial class rules, so he doesn't have any significant drow abilities.. he's also using the ECL buy-off rule from Unearthed Arcana, so his ECL is only +3). Anyway, he is a veritable killing machine.. Rogue 2/fighter 4 / dervish 5 . I don't think he does more damage than expected for his level (averages 46 hp if he hits with all his 4 attacks), but the possible gamebreaker is the Armor Class of 36 (albeit using Combat Exp) . . "Fortunately", he doesn't have more than 88 hp.. anyway, the party needed a tank so I allowed him to play one.

The reason for the poll was that I told him that few people on ENWorld would allow a half-dragon, and that I was a nice GM.. obviously I was wrong.. haha..

One more thing.. as a half-dragon/drow... his favored class would be wizard?? (Male drow)

I am currently playing a half-dragon (gold) samuari, and I must say she rocks! :D She was brought into the party when the other characters were 9th level and I feel that she is not too powerful or too weak for the rest of the party. She doesn't use her natural weapons, expect as a last result, and only gets to use her breath weapon once per day. I see her more of a samuari (Oriental Adventers not Complete Warrior) who happens to have a gold dragon as a father. She fights with honor and with the weapons that she has been trained to use. Her strength bonus and natural armor bonus help her a lot! Another player also brought in a new character at the time and together we created a great background story for my half-dragon and his paladin. In the right setting, I would play a half-dragon again.
