Half Ogre level adj. increase

okay the half ogre is now a +2 level adj. and it used to be +1...so what are your thoughts? Is it too much or still not enough(the +2 that is)? I'll try to list what they get (no book on hand)

large (10' reach -1 ac - attack and so on)
+6 str -2 dex +4 con -2 int -2 cha
darkvision 60'

Uh...I'm not sure if I got it all right, if somebody has either book (Savage Species or Races of Destiny) with them go ahead and correct me (they get the same stuff in both books)

I just want to know what you guys/girls think

Looks fine for a +2 to me, with the caveat that (as with most LA creatures) it's fine for the type of class which benefits from such stats and quite poor for those which don't, e.g. spellcasters.
 

well, my players have build a few PCs for our upcoming WLD campaign using the half-ogre from Savage Species - and I sure will not force the extra level adjustment upon them, just because WotC changed their collective mind again.
IMHO "Large" alone is such a disadvantage in most campaigns that +1 ECL is more than enough for this race. +2 would mean that you'll lose extra BAB and HD - essential for a fighter class. "Large" and Dex-2 results in lousy AC anyway - and large armor doesn't exactly grow on trees...

I think large (or small for that matter) has enough intrinsic advantages and disadvantages to be roughly balanced by itself.

Human Fighter 3
str 16, dex 14, con 14, int 10, wis 10, cha 10 (just as an example.. 28 point buy is pretty common)
27 hp, +6 attack (+3 BAB, +3 str) Spiked chain for 2d4+4 damage. 5-10ft reach.

Half Ogre Fighter 2 (+1 LA)
str 22, dex 12, con 18, int 8, wis 10, cha 8
23 hp, +7 attack (+2 BAB, +6 str, -1 size) Spiked chain for 2d4+9 damage. 5-20ft reach.

Half Ogre Fighter 1 (+2 LA)
str 22, dex 12, con 18, int 8, wis 10, cha 8
14 hp, +6 attack (+1 BAB, +6 str, -1 size) Spiked chain for 2d4+9 damage, 5-20 ft reach.

Note the human has 2 extra feats, 2 more ac (depending on armour used), more skill points etc etc. However just at a quick eyeball +2 LA certainly looks alot more balanced from a combat perspective. Although at lower levels the half ogre has alot less hp, he'll overtake the human in about 6 levels.
 


In addition

In SS, the half Orge also has +4 natural Armor on top of all of the stuff listed above it. I think it should be a +2 Ecl. It gives a huge advantages to a fighter or even a Barbarian who rages.
