Where can I find the template for a half ogre. What book and page number?

AFAIK, it's a race, not a template. It's in Savage Species.

BTW - almost everyone agrees it's too good for its LA - either kick it up another +1 or add a couple giant levels for balance.

Very simple... Half-Ogre implies the other parent is human

a Template would be if your Elf character had an Ogre Parent he'd be Elf and Half-Ogre and have the racial abilities of both.

I agree with this take on the Savage Species half-ogre -- it's much too good for ECL +1. Unfortunately, paring out abilities to bring it into line with other ECL +1 races isn't terribly satisfying, as the end result isn't very half-ogre-ish. Sir Whiskers has the right idea.

There's also a playable half-ogre race in Green Ronin's Bastards & Bloodlines, and it seems pretty good to me at ECL +2.

Uhm don't think Half ogre is a template as much as race. There are couple sources, Dragonlance CS, Savage Species, Tome of Horrors...

Those are some I remember off hand.

(Oh yeah forgot about that one...)

You can't add giant levels to it because (IIRC) it's a humanoid.

I'd add one humanoid hit dice to it. Having monstrous hit dice is crippling to the average character, but without leaving you with a paper tiger.

I think this one has been argued before. On page 217 of SS, it clearly shows as Giant type on the table. But the actual description mentions "Giant blood" as a trait, implying it's Humanoid or Monstrous Humanoid. Each GM can decide for him/herself, but since it's Large, I prefer to treat them as Giant type. For the half-ogre, that has the advantage of negating certain spells (charm person), but the disadvantage of also negating certain others (enlarge person).

There is also the half-orge template in issue #313 of Dragon Magazine. It has a +1 level adjustment. The article is called "Strange Bedfellows: New Half-Monster Templates".
