Half-Orc Two-Weapon Fighter: Is There Any Point?

As I said, if ya wanna go done the 2WF route, use a frickin' Hv Spiked Shield and slap the 'Bashing' enchant on it! That's 2d6 + whateva and your main hand weapon. If you want to twink it a bit more, make sure yer other weapon is made of mithril and thus considered light and you can use the shield as yer main hand weapon for lots of bashy goddness! I think that'll stand up pretty well against the GS.

There are other factors to consider also, like the shield provides AC and is a +1 weapon when used to bash thus making it pretty cheap.

A 2 hander only needs to be disarmed or sundered once whereas the 2WF will still have a weapon to hand.

Against incorporeal targets, and factoring in my really bad luck, I'd rather have more swings against 'em.

Convincing? Probably not. :( However I'm gonna stick with the 2WF.

D out.

Making a weapon out of mithral doesnt change whether it is considered light or not.

Maybe he means that you should wield a mithril breastplate as a weapon. Then it would count as light armor at least :)

Or you could put spikes on it. According to the SRD, "spiked armor" is a light weapon that does 1d6 damage.

Then you could throw it with a full round action as an improvised ranged weapon! ;)

Enchant it with Throwing and Returning, and you're Captain America.

To answer the OP's thread title question, though...

While a 2WF Half-Orc may or may not be suboptimal in combat compared to other builds depending upon which sourcebooks you have and how willing you are to twink things and how willing your DM is to work with you...

<whew!>

The point of this game is to design PCs you'd like to play and play them. If you find yourself fascinated by the concept, go with it!

So what would people say is the best semi-standard race for a TWF fighter?

I'd say human, half-orc, or (stretching the definition a little) tiefling or catfolk.

Anything with either a Str or Dex bonus, and no penalty to Str, Dex, or Con, or slow movement.

Wood Elf will be a good choice, too.
