I am in the other camp completely.
I loved 3.5, but now find it a strain to DM (too many rules etc).
I am looking forward to 4e and looking forward to converting. I love creating and converting, so good times ahead....all I need is time.

This describes me to a tee. My campaigns had already reached the level of near unplayability, so I was ready to begin anew. I wasn't actually looking forward to starting another D&D 3.5 game. I was considering Basic D&D (no joke!). Everything I've seen so far about 4e has me excited to run it. I've been running SWSE (despite not really liking Star Wars) and I predict that I will like runing this new edition as well.

Personally, I thought the Basic game was pretty good.
Hell yeah. 3.5 has left me thoroughly disillusioned with rules-heavy systems that focus on "character builds," splatbook power creep, and variable math ("Let's see, I'm raging, charging, Enlarged, and have Bull's Strength and Inspire Courage, and I'm Power Attacking for 4...").

I am very much looking forward to going back to B/X. It has some GREAT adventures and its simplicity is an asset.

I think that wanting to play is great. Nothing written that says you have to DM. The game needs 4 or 5 players, but only one of those DM guys.

If the rules are easy, intuitive, and such, as SEEMS to be the case (or the claim, at least), than it shouldn't be difficult to find one of your own players who wants to run a game. That goes for most groups.

In my group there are two of us who always DM (I like to run heroic games and he likes games where a guy burning down a village because they pissed him off is an expected and admired thing) but some of the other players have expressed interest. I know that, as excited as I am to run 4E, I'm just as excited to play in one of their games.

So, good luck. :) I hope you have a lot of fun.

Whenever I mention it, the reaction I got was: you're joking, right?

The Basic game WAS pretty good. Hell, it still IS pretty good!

With you again kennew142.
I too am running SW Saga. However I do like SW, but was not that keen on GMing. I would rather play. Having said that I am finding it a much better system to GM than 3.5 and I am very familiar with 3.5.

I actually love creating NPCs and converting monsters and ships for Saga. That is saying something. (Note too, that I always use a LOT of random rolls when creating NPCs, so Talent trees make this great: random tree, random talent :)).

Everything being retrospective is helpful too. So I don't have to 'correctly' do an NPC level by level, wondering where Constitution increased and from what point the NPC got extra hps.
