Halfling ranger does 1d10+5 w/bow?

Halfling paladin was using a short sword for some reason...on the other hand, his speed seemed to be only penalized by armor, not size.

Size...same..but different.

I would guess that the halfling would only use a shortbow, ala 3.0.

And, when they used that shortbow, they would add dex to damage.

On a related topic: would a (halfling) paladin have shortbow proficiency?

A lot of people was mad with the 1-1-1 diagonal. Me, it's the Damage+STR/DEX Mod. for Ranged Weapons. Thrown and Melee Weapons, OK. But it won't be so IMC with Ranged Weapon. I don't mind cinematic action, but not this, no.

If you can point to where someone who knows what their talking about says that's the only weapon restriction they have, I will be surprised and contrite.
Here you go :)

Some weapons are versatile which means they are one handed weapons that will do +1 damage if used two handed. Halflings can only use these weapons two handed.

So, Now we have

Trade off:
a Halfling Ranger will do less damage (weapon size)
Potentially, a Halfling will also get a size bonus (unconfirmed)
Gain:
Dex from the Halfling race, which is available to Elfs as well.

So... as far as we can tell. there is no great advantage to using this build

From what we can tell so far, this isn't a property of "Ranged weapons" but rather a property of the power. I have yet to see any rules for a "basic melee attack" and "basic ranged attack."

Basic attacks are the 4e equivalent of 3e standard action to attack... except we haven't been given any rules on how to make them yet. I assume they use the same modifiers as 3e. I'm holding out until we get more info.

Actually, have we seen any evidence that str can add to bow damage at all? All of the stuff we've seen shows that dex adds to bow damage, but that's because dex was always highest for those characters with bows.
