Handling Politics Talk at the Table?

While politics isn't a big issue at my table, what I do is that the first ten minutes of the session, while I'm setting up my place at the table, calculating the last session's xp and handing it out, and issuing charms, the players catch up on the events of last week (which usually involves spirited discussions of series they are all watching), and then I pull the focus to the game by summarizing the campaign's current situation.

I imagine our political discussions tonight will be mostly giving the 19 yr old some naughty word (and less xp :)) if she didn't go vote.

I was attending college last election. For most of my classmates it was the first time they were old enough to vote. They were IN to the process of figuring out who they liked and why. I enjoyed the experience - and missed it this time.

1996 is calling- Sammy Kershaw had three things you do not talk about. Although I still like "Queen of my Doublewide Trailer" better.

There is usually too much politics going on in our game settings to get bogged down with in real life politics. Though, keep in mind a super bowl level event is unfolding right now and its going to be very difficult to avoid the topic completely. Sending out something ahead of time asking folks to get it out of their system and not derail the game session should do it.
