Happy Belated Australia Day

I know this is a day late but I wasn't online yesterday so I'll say it now.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

Hope you all had a good one. I sat around, watching the Aussies thump England in the cricket while listening to Triple J's Hottest 100. Some friends came around and we had a BBQ for tea. Good times all round.

What about you? What did you do?

Lets see now... I had a champagne breakfast which I prepared for my girlfriend's birthday. Then It was around to a mates place for a BBQ, beers, the One Day match and some Guitar Hero. Then it was down to the beach for a picnic dinner. It was 37.5 degrees C at sunset in Perth (Reasonably close to 100'F), but a few beers solved that.

Definitely good times. Spent a few hours on Skype with a mate in London, who wanted someone to celebrate Oz day with too.

I've got to say that there is that Cronulla element around the place even here. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi, and all that with flags and beers in hand. I could see how it could be intimidating for immigrants.

Those Big Day Out organisers were trying, but they should know that you can't just ban the national flag.

It was ironic that the comments from the Big Day Out organisers made even more people take Australian flags to the event. They should have just kept quiet and not made such a big deal about it. Of course, I don't think that they expected the PM to weigh into the debate. That gave it a lot more media attention than it would have otherwise got.

There were 17 people arrested here in Adelaide after about (supposedly) 500 drunk people (many underage teen) got into a fight at one of our beaches. I don't think it was race related though.

And Myconid, yeah, I would say that Australia Day is sort of like America's Independence Day, except that we didn't have to fight the British to get it. Of course, most of us are just convicts that they sent over here anyway! (except South Australia, we were the first non-convict colony.)
