D&D (2024) Happy *THIS* Dungeon Masters Day!!

I like it better because it has a lot of lore about each of the campaign worlds and also a short fiction story. This book has actual practical use at a game table, no matter what edition you play.

It is also very large so the art really stands out.
You'll be really glad you got it. Only omission is Athas is not included, but then again the younger generations don't remember the glories of Dark Sun (controversial setting as it was).
Yet weirdly the DMG does mention Athas, and ignore Mystara...
I played a ton of MotW during covid with my players (I got to play for a change instead of running). It's a really fun game!
One I've been wanting to check out myself.

I like how they went with "deep cuts" on the Mystra art section. I had to Google some of the books listed as the source because I had forgotten they existed. Now I think the GAZ series has some spectacular pieces, but fun to showcase some other works.

Even if they have no particular Mystara plans, it may have gotten into this book based on the sheer volume of classic TSR art alone.

OK. I don't know what that is.
It's a system Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA), so if you've ever heard of Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, Masks, Monsterhearts, etc., they all use the same core framework, roll 2d6 (+MOD, when relevant, which is most of the time.)

6-: failure, usually unpleasant immediate consequences
7-9: partial success, meaning, success with a cost, short-term/temporary success, a mix of good and bad, only getting some good things but missing others, or having to make a tough choice (or some similar "you kinda got what you wanted but also kinda didn't")
10+: full success, you get what you wanted, or you only need to give up a very little bit (e.g. picking 3 things from a list instead of only 1)

2014 DMG, chapter 8, Resolutions and Consequences.
Will need to look at those rules more closely, but I'm skeptical that it would be as fleshed out as it is in a PbtA game just because the whole system is built around the concept.
