Hardback or softback?

I'd vote hardcover, just for karma. Monsters of Faerun is my only softbound monster book, and through no fault of my own, it's been folded, spindled, mutilated, bent and had ramen spilled on it.

Don't ask.

Demiurge out.

Hm, all you people talking about it depending on the size, how many pages is too big to be softbound? We're looking at 192 pages...

I think that could work as either. AEG has put out some large page softbounds and despite plenty of readings they have held up fine. Their Magic book is softbound and exactly 192 pages in length. Monster books don't seem to get as much wear and tear, so softbound should be fine.

and you can send my review copy to...:D

I've got harcovers and softcovers that are over 15 years old. So, softcovers can last if bound well. I also have hardbound books that have failed to last, again it depends on the binding.

I actually prefer my RPG books to be bound in goat hides, but that's a different topi

Hardbacks for my bookshelf because they just look better. ;) But as long as the content is solid and the book stays together then either format is fine. That is unless the book is over 256 pages. That sucker should probably be hardback or you risk mutilation when travelling. And I take care of my stuff, too. A bad example: A bunch of my Palladium stuff (all softback) hasn't been used a whole lot but is in bad shape.
