Hardcore gamers

I had a friend addicted to Diablo II for a summer. At one point, I was visiting him, and he said, "Man I gotta take a massive dump." My response was, of course, "So go dump."

"I will after I beat Diablo," he says, only halfway through the 2nd act.

Eight hours later, when I visited him again (we lived in the same frat house), he'd still not taken a dump, despite having beat Diablo on all levels of difficulty AND taken a 2nd character through easy difficulty once.....

I saw a guy at a MtG gathering wet himself when he wouldn't take a break from the multiplayer game. After the game he got up and went to his dorm to change. All the rest of us just looked at each other in astonishment.

I think sniffles wins this so far; that is dedication. The EverQuest guy is just pathetic.

Can't say I disagree on either. And the EQ guy is a friend of mine. I graduated HS with him, and I've never seen anything like it.

Hmm. My best story isn't that great.

I once worked 13 hours, had an hour off (me and two co-workers in the same situation spent the hour at Dunkin' Donuts), went back to work for 5 hours before finally being off-work.. And then I went to play in my weekly session for 6 hours.

My story isn't as hardcore as some others, but here it is. We usually game on Saturdays because that is the only day everyone has off. Well, one Saturday, the person who owned the house that we gamed at announced that he had to move the next Saturday and we wouldn't be able to game. Not game? we said. So we ended up spending the day moving him from his old house to an apartment (divorce does that) and gamed afterwards. Of course, it was the hottest day of the year (August in Florida) and my car didn't have A/C. Plus, the game sucked afterwards... :\

Mine's not so great either.

Last summer, I drove (or took public transportation) about once per week from Baltimore, MD to Alexandria, VA.

I've also rearranged work schedules and skipped classes to game. But then again, I've rearranged work schedules and skipped classes to do absolutely nothing too.

Does online gaming count? I know a guy who's so addicted to Everquest II that he spends every waking moment online. If you call him on the phone, he'll put the phone down and you can hear him on his headset talking with his group. His wife and daughter never see him except when he comes out to the bathroom.

He weighs over 500 pounds, has severe diabetes, and can barely support his own weight when he walks now. He refuses to see a doctor because he "might miss something in the game" (a direct quote). He's been reprimanded at work for being late. He's been known to come home on Friday evenings, go into his computer room, and not leave except for bathroom breaks (not even sleep) until Monday morning when he goes back to work.

It's pretty sad, really.

In my last long term group, I knew a guy that was so addicted to Everquest he bought a second computer system and set it up right next to his other one to play EQ with 2 characters at the same time. His life was DnD, work and EQ.

Now, my story, not a lost limb, but close:

My Mom (who I did not like at that time, but we won't go there.), had an accendent and had one of her fingers severed. She needed someone to pick her up from the hospital. I could not do it, I had a DnD game to get to. Priorites.

To which you respond, "Duh! Armor check penalty!"

But normal clothes have no AC penalty. I guess you could cast Cat's Grace, but it's a touch spell! Yes, I do read OotS... :p
