Hardcore gamers

How about a different definition of "hardcore"? I used to play with a guy who played bass in a punk band - N.I.hilate

Does online gaming count? I know a guy who's so addicted to Everquest II that he spends every waking moment online. If you call him on the phone, he'll put the phone down and you can hear him on his headset talking with his group. His wife and daughter never see him except when he comes out to the bathroom.

He weighs over 500 pounds, has severe diabetes, and can barely support his own weight when he walks now. He refuses to see a doctor because he "might miss something in the game" (a direct quote). He's been reprimanded at work for being late. He's been known to come home on Friday evenings, go into his computer room, and not leave except for bathroom breaks (not even sleep) until Monday morning when he goes back to work.

It's pretty sad, really.

I post pretty frequently on another board (non gaming related) and there is a woman who has mentioned in a very sad post about having a husband who weighed over 500 lbs, plays games like Everquest all day and night and refused to help her with housework or taking care of their year old baby...even when she was VERY pregnant. He then missed the birth of the new baby. Honestly, I think people like that go beyond normal fans of a game and obviously have other serious problems going on in their heads.

Hmm... except for the part about the wife posting and the kids, this could be my friend. His wife is utterly horrified of computers (she's a whole psychiatric dissertation waiting to be written) and his daughter is 16 and almost as bad as she is.

I dunno, even after a show and an extensive 'deodorizing,' after three to four hours in a room like that, I'll smell.

I don't have any real hardcore stories, so I guess I'm not hardcore. Maybe I should be happy

You can definitely try. I know characters who have wasted a lot of gold on it, too
