A thunderstorm came through last night and I was lying there thinking what if a tornado takes the house off the foundation? How would I replace all my figs?

P.S. Re: Child birth: luckily both my kids were born on our off week, but my wife still thinks I would have gamed anyway. (So we gamed one week after each time.) To bad I can't afford a third+ to prove her wrong.

Does online gaming count? I know a guy who's so addicted to Everquest II that he spends every waking moment online. If you call him on the phone, he'll put the phone down and you can hear him on his headset talking with his group. His wife and daughter never see him except when he comes out to the bathroom.

He weighs over 500 pounds, has severe diabetes, and can barely support his own weight when he walks now. He refuses to see a doctor because he "might miss something in the game" (a direct quote). He's been reprimanded at work for being late. He's been known to come home on Friday evenings, go into his computer room, and not leave except for bathroom breaks (not even sleep) until Monday morning when he goes back to work.

It's pretty sad, really.

I think he's got me beat. At least I did miss a few sessions when my health prevented it!

Can you say "intervention"?
Sounds like his health depends on it.

Something should be done to help him.

I agree. But a person also has to want to be helped. He does not see that he's got a problem, with gaming or with his health. I've never seen anyone in such deep denial about anything.

hmm early in my marriage there were frequent arguments or sexual enticements right before I left for gaming. We worked it out that first year, and I dropped to one night a week (from two) and She has come to value her night alone/girls nights. nine year anniv coming up :)

And in the priests chambers before my wedding, I broke out MgtG cards and played a team game with my groomsmen, there is even a picture of us in tuxes huddled around a small desk.

The last game I missed was due to Project Deadlines that left me with 9 hrs of sleep over three days.

Does anyone remember the story of the guy who refused to leave a table during games and would soil himself instead? I think it was on rpg.net, maybe?

I remember that thread.

The story was that the DM had a very low-rent appartment and couldn't afford to move. But the landlord's son (a grown man) was into D&D and wanted him to DM. Essentially the guy had to DM the landlord's son or he'd have to live out of his car. The landlord's son would soil himself -- no adult diapers or anything -- rather than leave the game table and didn't want anyone else leaving the table for any reason either. The guy had to "forget" books in his room so he could sneak off and go to the bathroom himself. The guy eventually got out of the appartment but ran into the landlord's son at a con. The landlord's son had taken to wearing adult diapers because the con managers wouldn't let him in otherwise.

The truly scary thing is that wasn't the worst story on the thread.

I'm skipping my sister's wedding to go to Gencon.

The only way I'd soil myself is if things in True Tavern get really out of hand. I can see it now, Fighter says to Cleric "Hey, why is the guy playing the bard not wearing any pants?"
