[HARP] Back to the Dungeon: The Moathouse

*Gunnar acknowledges Gamon's intent with a nod and readies his bow to cover him.*
There must be a tunnel entrance around here somewhere.

OOC for die_kluge: It's mid-day.

Gamon: [Perception, roll of 76 on dice, +39 skilled, total 115, yields 110%] As you stop to listen, you hear an audible, loud croak. Too loud for any ordinary frog.

Gunnar: [Perception, roll of 16 on dice, +35 skilled, total 51, yields 50%] You hear nothing but Tutkia and Gallen talking. "Did you hear that?" "Yes, I did." Hear what?

Tutkia, Gallen: It's not hard to see what caused the noise, as, surfacing from the bog is a giant frog. It blinks menacingly at the two of you as it surfaces.

Initiative
Giant Frog 28
Gunnar 25 (roll of 6, +11 In, +8 Qu)
Gamon 24 (roll of 6, +6 In, +12 Qu)
Gallen 22 (roll of 2, +12 In, +8 Qu)
Tutkia 8 (roll of 2, +1 In, +5 Qu)

Notes: The frog's about 20 feet away from Tutkia at the moment. The bog looks less than passable as far as you can tell.

Tutkia stares slack-jawed for a moment before muttering "Mikä helvetti on että?". Then he shouts "Get back!" to the Elven mage and quickly slides forward, interposing himself between the beast and Gallen.

[OOC: Since I'm going last, lots of conditionals: If the thing comes close enough for me to attack it from firm footing, I'll do so. If not, I'll just try to get between it and Gallen. I'm assuming I won't have time to get out my crossbow and load it.

Combat Stats:
Battle Axe +57 Large Slash (+10 on Slash Critical table)
Defense Bonus +45
104 Concussion Hits

Gamon Gumwhistle - halfling thief level 1

Gamon, wide-eyed, pulls out his sling and, using rocks from the crumbled staircase, will attack the toad from the bottom of the stairs, where he was standing.

*At Tutkia's shout Gunnar whirls and fires his bow at the frog.*

OOC: Short Bow -- Fumble: 01-03 OB: +47/+37 Size: Small Type: Puncture

OOC: Just a heads up that I'll post after Tailspinner posts what Gallen is doing. I'm out most of the day tomorrow and then work both Monday morning and Monday night, so it might be until Monday night, but I'll try to get it done sooner if possible. Hope everyone's having a good weekend. I just didn't want y'all to think I was ignorning you.

Gallen Spillage : Elf Mage 1

Upon seeing the large amphibian, Gallen thinks quickly and casts an attack spell at the beast.

OOC: Casting Arcane Bolt with two levels of Increase Damage for:
PP Cost: 6
Damage: 3d10
I hope this is right.

Round 1
The frog hops forward through the muck, closing the distance between itself and Tutkia to about 10 feet.

As Tutkia whistles, Gunnar spins and fires an arrow at it [roll of 48 on dice, +37 OB, attack total 85, -70 DB (includes +20 bonus to DB for partial cover: foliage), -10 small weapon, total 5, yields 4 Hits], which grazes the frog's right shoulder.

Gamon, from his position at the base of the stairs, some 35 feet away, whips a sling bullet back at it [roll of 85, +6 OB (-10 RI 1), attack total 91, -70 DB, -10 small, total 11]. The bullet bounces off the side of the frog's bulbous head with a dull thunk [7 hits].

Then, Gallen casts his spell [roll of 66 on dice, -20 scaling (+4 pp for +2d10 damage), +41 skilled, total 87, yields 100 on RR table, (hidden roll: RR/Magic), failure], and an bolt of arcane energy flies out of his hand, threading through the growth and nailing the giant amphibian square in its slimy torso [damage: 25 hits].

Tutkia holds his ground, keeping the elf behind him and the frog in front.

OOC: As you can see, the frog's now 10 feet away from Tutkia and over 30 feet away from Gamon. Ranged attacks from inside the courtyard suffer from an additional -20 penalty (or the frog gains +20 DB, if you like) because of the foliage/scrub (soft cover). If you have any questions/comments, let me know. I'm learning this, too, so if I goof something up, please tell me.

Gallen Spillage : Elf Mage 1

Gallen decides to cast yet another attack spell at the beast. This time he decides to not scale the spell up.

OOC: Casting Arcane Bolt: PP Cost: 2; Damage: 1d10

As his companions' attacks strike home, Tutkia roars out a cheer. "Take that, ya slimy äpärä!" He brandishes his axe in the air while crouching at the ready.

[OOC: Trying to keep the frog's attention on me while the others pummel it. I won't leave the nice, dry piece of ground I'm on, but if the thing comes in range I'll brain it.

I don't know how held actions work in this system, but if possible, I'm holding (readying) an action to hack the frog when it comes in range.]
