Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

People are still playing and modding Hogwarts legacy and with Hogwarts Legacy 2 on the way,the brand is still just as strong. While the shine has worn off it still has a large fan base and thanks to the show, a possible new fan base will emerge.

As a GenXer rather than millenial, I can't say HP means much to me, personally. But I understand its popularity, and I feel bad for those torn between their love of a formative series and their desire not to support its creator. Every generation has some of that.

I am sure there are ways to have both with this series....
Not really. She has literally said she is going to use the money from it to start and fund new anti-trans advocacy groups and anti-trans legislative advocacy.

She has intentionally made it so that supporting the show will directly bring harm to trans people. What can you do in face of that? Other hoist the colors i guess but idk how a person could even enjoy it knowing what is behind it.

Besides, the one character the books describe as Black has the last name Shacklebolt, and the Asian girl is called Cho Chang (not a name any specufic Asian nation would ever produce, made of two family names that just arent used as personal names much anywhere, if at all), and that is just thetip of the iceberg.

If people our age want kids to experi3nce the magic we felt, we need to make new stuff or steer them toward Percy Jackson.

That game is in my shared Steam account. I should try it at some point, didn't know it had a mod scene going on with it.

Every time a Harry Potter video is posted on YouTube or Facebook -- not exactly bastions of liberal thought -- it's brought up.

The "no one has heard of a controversy everyone has heard about" discourse around here is crazy.

You are approaching it from perspective of anglosphere, probably from USA or UK. Personally, i read portals, regional ( from SE Europe), Italy, Austria and Germany. Italian portals for most part ignore anglosphere all together and focus on internal stuff. Austiran and german portals, they are mostly academic and detached and news about Rawling were buried in subsection of Culture. It wasn't on main pages. That specific subject that makes her stances controversial, isn't that big on news portals across continental Europe, at best, it gets article in one of the subcategories that least read, Culture. Also, on Facebook, news from Culture have abysmally low reach.

That's more on the general side. On more personal side, people just grew up. Last movie came out 15 years ago. By the time she started spewing her stances on twitter (very USA centric social media), people stopped caring about her, at least casual fans did. They grew up, developed new interests. Majority of that verbal dhiarea came during covid. We were between lockdowns, most of older fans were dealing with grown up problems, news were flooded with other, more important stuff.

Anecdotally, from people at work and in social circle, was majority really doesn't know about her stances. They grew up with books and movies, but are now people in mid to late 30s, with kids, jobs, families, mortgages. At best, people knew she said something controversial, but don't know precisely what and don't care enough about her or her personal stances. HP is part of childhood, they will probably watch new stuff for pure nostalgia sake, but don't care enough about author. Hell, i needed to google to see what she was talking about precisely. Maybe because most of them moved away from social media years ago or have heavily curated news feed on FB.

I have heard a little about her stances, almost all of it second hand. I don't linger in the crowds that follow this stuff, so overall, some of your post may pertain to people like me.

If people realized how many anti-POC or discriminatory artists there are out there, how many there have been...etc...a majority (from what I can see) of most of film and literature would be blacklisted. It does not matter if someone is "dead" as some think that makes this stuff safe, their estates and those who are somehow related to them still profit from it.

If I discarded stuff simply due to the artists, I would have a lot less to enjoy. In my general life, it means that I care more about the art and what is in something, rather than the background of whoever made it...unless...of course...that art reflects the creator's own opinions on that matter or are an attempt to express the distasteful opinions.

So, a lot of the stuff going on (and this pertains to many dead as well as living) I really don't keep abreast of. It's not a high enough priority in my life to keep tabs on all that is going on or all that is happening with such and such or who did what. It's incredible I even keep tabs on D&D with this forum and such!

I have not read the books, but I have heard from others (a post above this references some of this) that the books have some distasteful items in them which could be a major turnoff to me. I have no idea if I will watch this series or not, but I think that there are going to be a lot of people that do and it could be a major show upcoming. With our fandom and our circles engulfing the fantasy scene, I feel this show will impact many who will play RPGs and particularly D&D.

In fact, even if I don't watch the show, I'm pretty certain some of my players will.

I feel like I was clear. This is now my third red text post saying the same thing. This thread is not going to be derailed by the art/artist debate. You can discuss the show, or why you oppose it and its creator, but not the meta of it. Folks, from now on it will just be thread bans. I’m not going to keep repeating myself. If I wasn’t clear before, I hope I am now.

On the topic related, i read somewhere they should start filming S2 in mid to late 2026. Which is great. But yeah, post production on show like this is probably massive undertaking, specially because of heavy use of VFX. There will probably be overlap with post production of one season and filming of another to avoid 2-3 year gaps between seasons.
