Has Anyone Ever Run a Single Classed Sorcerer?

Seriously, as soon as it's possible to be taking PrCs, I'd be doing it with the Sorc. You only get spells as you go up in Sorc levels; why WOULDN'T you prop it up with other classes?

Aside from actual character reasons, I suppose...

It's awful hard to qualify for any PRC's as a striaght sorcerer. I mean, name one PRC where the prerequisites are all filled by JUST playing as a sorcerer... okay, aside from archmage.

THough, to be frank, as a sorcerer the game is still pretty sweet. You learn a few good spells, and you can cast them up to your limit per day. It means I don't have to worry about memorizing incedental important spells in the mnorning like "Identify" and "mending" and whatnot... Instead, i have 1-2 combat spells per level, and the rest are utilities.

Not a sorcerer, but I'm currently running a 9th lvl shugenja in Mallus' campaign (the Burne story hour in my sig). The class has exactly the same situation as the sorcerer, with nothing besides spells gained from 1st level on.

There's no real reason that I haven't bothered to take a PrC. It's not even really a character concept issue, since I've played him as a very atypical shugenja and as a magical dabbler with the ability to pick up very different kinds of magic, and it would be easy to justify a lot of different PrCs. So I guess I'm an example of someone who hasn't picked up a PrC just because I haven't bothered to.

I'm running one now. Reasons:

1) I don't have the prereqs for any of the PrCs in the DM's campaign, nor do I want to expend the feats or skill points necessary to get them

2) Familiar abilities keep going up

3) Spell switch out options. Useful if you haven't been preemptively minimaxing

4) I'm maxing out bluff. Some PrCs have bluff, but not all

(1)'s the main reason. (2),(3),(4) are pretty minor, but taking them all together you can see that you lose a lot of little things to take a PrC

1) Because some people don't think like that. Being a sorcerer is all you need.
2) Because some DMs (ahem) caught on early to the fact that PrCs that give you full arcane spellcasting progression AND good abilities are usually too powerful unless they compensate some other way, so reign in such classes.

That said, I think the sorcerer is a bit weak as is so sort of let this one slide as often as not. But I did have a single class sorcerer played in my longest lasting 3e campgaign to date. He was played to epic levels.

I've played straight sorcerers on a number of occasions. I prefer them to wizards by a long shot. Limited spells true, but multiple cast what and when you need far outweighs the fire and forget wizard.

I've only ever taken a PrC for a sorcerer once, and that was Dragon Disciple. Didn't work out very well. I'd rather play straight no-multiclass sorcerer.

I love sorcerers. They're easy to play and you can cast a ton of spells each day. What's not to like?
