Has anyone forsaken their television for any length of time?

I was TVless up to age 14 or so. By that point, I was comfortable enough in my own skull that I didn't need TV, and so I only watch what I want - and that isn't very much. Of course, I'm pretty rigid about what little I do like - if it's worth watching, it's worth making an effort for.

Then I do pushups in ad breaks, and write the experience off as exercise.

Whats on anyway?

Well you missed Farscape. That's the one thing you should have watched. Other than that, it doesn't really matter, though MXC is hilarious.

Going on month seven. Don't miss it in the slightest. For the past 6 months, I have had access to an LCD Projector and a surround sound system. This was used to watch DVDs and play video games. If a show is so good someone recommends it to me in conversation, I will rent it and if I like it, I will watch through the seasons available on DVD. If its the greatest thing since sliced bread I will buy it. The fact that DVD circumvents the commercials, and that my favorite english pub covers most sports I am interested in, I see no reason to recieve signal. I plan on buying a projector of my own and a region free DVD player with some surround sound. After that, no more TV. yay!

Aaron.

During the school year, my computer and my TV were within spitting distance from each other. Now, however, they're in completely different rooms, so I find myself watching TV rarely at best. I watch DVDs on my laptop while I'm surfing the web sometimes.

But I agree. Not watching TV allows me to read more and do other semi-social things.

I don't even play much computer games. for example, I own Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter, plus the two expansions for both. I haven't finished either ones main storyline. I think I am half way through BG and maybe 1/4 of the way through NW.
Do yourself a favor and skip NWN's main storyline, and go straight to Shadows of Undrentide. You'll be glad you did.

I love watching DVDs. I love playing Console games. I love my Tivo.

I just don't watch crap. And believe me, Dance Dance Revolution is many things, but sedentary ain't one of 'em. :)

Even though I don't have a particular plan to avoid television, I don't watch as much as I used to. I go through long periods of one behaviour pattern and then switch suddenly to another; right now, I'm experiencing a "no TV, yes Internet D&D fora" pattern, but I can feel a heavy TV-watching period coming on, and see it in my behaviour as it changes. Or I may get suckered into a frenetic book-reading period (these tend to be shorter because I read very fast).

Anyway, it's ironic, because here in Australia the two shows that I did always make time to watch - Angel and 24 - have just ended, so lately I've been feeling the urge to watch more TV at a time when my favourite shows aren't on! Hah.

Were it not for the aforementioned pair of shows, though, I would easily have spent the last two or three months watching TV only "accidentally"; reading a book on the living room couch while the TV's still on, for example, or while talking to my parents as they watch one of their favourite shows.

Well, I havn't had a television in my dorm room, and then my apartment since...2000. So I've been on a 4 year vacation from TV. And I spend Sunday nights after gaming at my friends' place catching up on all the episodes of Stargate I've been missing during that time. ;)

I have a couple of TVs, but I only use them to watch rented movies nowadays, or to use the Playstation2. I think it must've been months since I last saw an actual TV programme.

We have a TV, but only for movies and such. We don't own any consoles, so pretty much just videos and DVDs. The only TV shows I've really watched are WB cartoons from when I was younger, the X-Files, and Invader Zim, which I got because I liked JTHM.
