has anyone had LASIK done? (I did!)

I'm scheduled for LASIK next week. I've done a ton of research on it and talked to a few people I know who have had it. I'm pretty excited about it and was just wondering if anyone here has had it. I'm not thrilled about the procedure but I've heard it's pretty easy and I figure I can put up with a few minutes of discomfort for not having to wear glasses anymore. Xmas gift to myself!

I've had it done. Wonderful experience (at least 24 hours after ;)).

My personal 'oops' experience was when I was looking into the 'red dot' and hearing sizzeling and (imagining) smelling burnt stuff and knowing it was my eye. Anyhow I was given some sedatives and went home and was knocked out for 16 hours and woke up with near perfect vision. After contect lenses and glasses for 20 years that was a wonderful experience.

Good luck and enjoy the glasses-free life.

I'm hoping to get it done one of these days too, but my vision's not that bad and my finances aren't that good. ;)

W3rd.

Plus I'm extremely edgy about doing stuff to my eyeballs; I've never even been able to go the contacts route because of that. I'm also so used to seeing myself with glasses that I think that I look unnatural without them.

Hell, when my best friend switched to contacts, I almost didn't recognize her.

Maybe I just have Lois Lane syndrome. :D

From what I've gathered, the majority of problems are the result of people going to lower quality "chop shops." The key to finding a good facility is to not get the cheapest procedure possible and verify that the place in question has actually refused people. That's key. My uncle is an optometrist and he said that there are no "borderline" candidates for LASIK. You either are or you aren't.

I'll be going to TLC in Providence. They are very well-known and reputable around the country (Tiger Woods had it done by them  ).

I'm waiting for the implants, myself. My muscle condition makes my eye sockets change shape throughout the day. Add in my astigmatism and the need for lenses to filter things so I can see more than sixteen or so colours and don't "fuzz out" in shades of grey, and Contacts and lasers would just not manage it. The implants, though, would move and shift with me as I go... Cyborg Eyes, Baby! :)

Best thing I ever did.

When I got done and had the plastic protectors over my eyes, I already had perfect vision. I had the WORST HEADACHE OF MY LIFE immediately afterwards and a lot of burning in my eyes on the drive home (I had my leather jacket over my head and I couldn't get it dark enough!).

The smell of burning flesh is a little unnerving, but nothing that most of us cultists of Cthulhu haven't smelled before.

It was the best thing I ever did. I did it nearly 4 years ago now and wish I could have done it 20 years ago. The amount of damage that contact lenses did to my eyes sucks and there are mornings where I still reach over for my glasses when I'm done.

Plus..the babes like me more...my own wife and two babies that is ;)
