It most certainly has.
For one thing - and I think the most important thing - EN World has really, really managed to create a community.
A place where you can go and realize that even when your mom is eyeing your core books suspeciously or your friends ask you yet again "So, what is this thing really about", you have a crowd of civilized, all-gender, all-age group that confirms the "normality" of RPGing.
Not that these issues have been problems for me ever, but I can imagine it must be great for people who have just being introduced to the hobby.
Also, the industry is really gathered as a whole. I don't think any other game has this kind of fan created community and certainly any industry where the fans have created awards that are actually being taken seriously by the creators of the game can only be good.
It feels like a we're a "crowd". I go here here and I know that if anything happens, anything, this place will tell me and I will have people to discuss it with.
Third, questions ... oh yes. Attacks of Opportunity, advice, quest ideas and all that. The forums are a invaluable place to pick all these up. I have used maps from here, ideas from here; reading so many people saying something about the same thing, it's just easier to get an idea of what works and what doesn't.
It's like having all the best DMs in the world gathered around a table. If you have a cool idea or a problem, you'll get instant feedback.
I remember asking a question about a spell I wanted to introduce a long time ago (way before these boards were moved about and handles needed to be recreated). Simply put, I was talking about a "quick save". A spell caster could "save", go forth for some time (like 5 minutes) and then decide if the course of actions should be reverted or kept.
Certainly not the brightest game mechanic in the world, but I was just looking for something that would make the players more adventurous and still get a chance of "going back" instead of having an obvious DM trick to save them.
I judged this spell to be 4th level, for some reason. I posted the idea and within minutes a gazillion people went like "WHOA! 9th for sure, man". So I dropped the idea and a potential hazardous spell was kept out of my game.
If that isn't "making my game better", I don't know what is.
Sorry for the novel, here ... and oh yeah: The quick save spell is a pretty f****** dumb idea, I know. No comments needed
