I'll say yes. But very provisionally. It seems like about a year ago "inspirational threads" were a lot more common. Nowadays, there is only the occasional inspirational thread.

I think its helped a lot, its a place to ask questions, and look at questions asked by others.

Plus you have story hour, its hard to say you haven't taken something out of it.

Heck yes! Without this place, I'd probably be running published modules.

I use this place to bounce ideas off of people, to harvest ideas and to get the latest news. It's essential.

YES!

I've gotten ideas for (or flat-out swiped) monsters, feats, spells, prestige classes, npcs, character concepts, adventure ideas, traps... I've seen how others handle problems in their games, which is always helpful when you encounter similar situations.

Much help, and much inspiration.

It most certainly has.

For one thing - and I think the most important thing - EN World has really, really managed to create a community.

A place where you can go and realize that even when your mom is eyeing your core books suspeciously or your friends ask you yet again "So, what is this thing really about", you have a crowd of civilized, all-gender, all-age group that confirms the "normality" of RPGing.

Not that these issues have been problems for me ever, but I can imagine it must be great for people who have just being introduced to the hobby.

Also, the industry is really gathered as a whole. I don't think any other game has this kind of fan created community and certainly any industry where the fans have created awards that are actually being taken seriously by the creators of the game can only be good.

It feels like a we're a "crowd". I go here here and I know that if anything happens, anything, this place will tell me and I will have people to discuss it with.

Third, questions ... oh yes. Attacks of Opportunity, advice, quest ideas and all that. The forums are a invaluable place to pick all these up. I have used maps from here, ideas from here; reading so many people saying something about the same thing, it's just easier to get an idea of what works and what doesn't.

It's like having all the best DMs in the world gathered around a table. If you have a cool idea or a problem, you'll get instant feedback.

I remember asking a question about a spell I wanted to introduce a long time ago (way before these boards were moved about and handles needed to be recreated). Simply put, I was talking about a "quick save". A spell caster could "save", go forth for some time (like 5 minutes) and then decide if the course of actions should be reverted or kept.

Certainly not the brightest game mechanic in the world, but I was just looking for something that would make the players more adventurous and still get a chance of "going back" instead of having an obvious DM trick to save them.

I judged this spell to be 4th level, for some reason. I posted the idea and within minutes a gazillion people went like "WHOA! 9th for sure, man". So I dropped the idea and a potential hazardous spell was kept out of my game.

If that isn't "making my game better", I don't know what is.

Sorry for the novel, here ... and oh yeah: The quick save spell is a pretty f****** dumb idea, I know. No comments needed :)

regards
Toft

The biggest benefit I've derived from haunting EnWorld is meeting other gamers in my area.

It's also cool to have all the latest D20 news in one place, and the boards are a lot of fun.

So, has it made my games better? Yep. Like I've said, I've met a lot of local gamers on this site. If not for ENWorld, I might be playing with myself!

(hmmm, thinking of changing sig to that last sentence...)

Please do, that would make me laugh every time I rad your .sig ;)

In fact it sounds like an advert for ENWorld. "Lonley gamer? Try ENWorld NOW! See what it has done for other gamers worldwide. Gospog says "If not for ENWorld, I might be playing with myself!"

Great source of information and discussion. I enjoy being able to ask questions of other gamers to see how they might arbitrate certain rules.

EN World is the place to hear the latest news and has the most active message boards. If you can't find it here, you can't find it anywhere.

I used to like the d20 reviews section more but now that there is heavy censorship its hard to get a good range on opinions any more. You never know what someone might have said. I only buy products I can personally examine beforehand these days which is typically WoTC and SSS products.

For DMs its very useful of course... but as a player I can barely wait to use the Baby shield idea ! (Being evil has its advantages). Every time I have a new feat coming up I come to ENworld to check out suggestions and ideas.

The discussion and rules discussions are more fun than practical most of the time... but YES it helps my gaming.

Quick question: what are you talking about? There is absolutely no censorship of opinions on the reviews page. There is, of course, usual moderation of profanity, insults etc, none of which have any place in a review.
