D&D 4E Hasbro, Greyhawk, and 4E speculation

Scenario 1:
D&D is permitted support and a team as long as it makes a profit. When it no longer makes a profit, everyone is laid off, and D&D becomes a moribund property, consisting of a library of products and a brand name. I suspect this will be soon, because endless-release churn drives more and more people away.

It would be cool if you could give us a ball park as to what "soon" is. Are you talking "soon" as in "one year" or soon as in "ten years".

To me, the time span you see involved is an important addition to your analysis, mostly because if your "soon" is "within ten years", well, yeah, anything can happen in ten years. If it's "one year", well, we'll know within a year if you're right.

So give us a rough estimate. When is "soon"?

Cheers!

I dont think Hasbro/WOTC would be able to do that with the Forgotten Realms though

Apparently Ed Greenwoods deal with TSR/WOTC/Hasbro includes a clause where the setting reverts back to Eds control if the current holder of Licence doesnt stops publishing realms products.

So basicly if hasbro did what Sanguinemetaldawn said they'd loose the FR licence
If they want to keep the rights to the setting, it's sufficient for them to publish novels; there's no need to dish out gaming material. As far as I know, the novels still sell well.

And have been repeated by him more than once. Monte needs a macro.
he could borrow mine.

OD&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing. :D

i'm hoping someone will buy the defunct Whizzers of the Cost, a Hasbeen subsidiary and start producing OD&D product again.

boxed sets with 3 small booklets and reference sheet

Chainmail by Gygax & Perrin

Outdoor Survival

lead minis and dice

They could combine the old and current paradigms and produce boxed sets with 3
small booklets, randomly chosen from a set of 20.

of course, it would be new to those who don't have the originals.

yeah, i want them produced again. more prints = more players.

See, I think it would be a good idea for WotC to produce the original game as a nostalgia piece but replacing D&D with the original edition wouldn't work.
