So WotC backed down, but I wonder how much permanent damage has been done. It may be that the Trust Thermocline has still well and truly been crossed, since most of the reactions I'm seeing are "this is good, BUT..." and lots of people still being (rightfully, IMO) wary and still expecting 6e to be locked under something restrictive.

Right now, no one trusts them. But they recognise this and by releasing the 5.1 SRD under CC, there is no longer any need to trust in their beneficence.

It will take several years I'd think for them to potentially rebuild community trust.

You can stop giving WotC money and still play 5e.

And one doesn't even have to bother with the playtest and any of that. Just walking away and spend their time having fun.
