haste

Never had a problem with multiple castings. Made for some VERY fun mage duels. :]

Lucky you. When the wizard and the sorcerer in our 3E campaign discovered this aspect of Haste, things got *way* ugly. To the point where the non-arcane-spellcasters in the party had enough, and petitioned me to ban Haste....they got sick of never having anything to do in combat, after the wizard and the sorcerer, between them, popped off four direct-damage spells at the beginnng of combat.

Yes, but chapechange puts the ability to cast a second spell in a round at it's proper level, nearing epic. You also get to have the fun "which items can a choker wear" conversation with your DM. Suprisingly it also has decent natural armor also, and a special attack designed for combatting spellcasters, nice.

Concerning the haste "nerf". The way I see it, they removed a spell called haste that had powers completly out of line with what should be allowed, and replaced it with a different spell of the same name.

But to each there own... ;)
Have you seen the mage duel rules in the Complete Arcane? I think those look way cool.

HAven't bought too much as of late. Some OGL stuff, mostly.

My two pesos: We're playing a DS campaign, so the multiple spells isn't such a bad thing. Especially when you consider the fire power a pilot with a gunship (helicopter style) could pull out. Not much of a fight when the players pull a 'call for fire'. Even without this example, a first level character can pull 3d8 hp in damage on a hit with a pistol. :)

The thing that convinced me that 3.0 haste was broken was the fact that the first thing epic-level pcs did when combat started was cast a 3rd level spell.

They're dumb then. They should've cast mass haste which is 6th or timestop at 9th. Both of these are better than plain haste.

Besides 3.5 didn't "rectify" anything wrt to multiple spell actions. Now the cheese is the core 3.5 metamagic rod to which haste can't even hold a candle too.

Knowing your Wiz/Sorc would do this with haste, why not have more enemies there to fight them?

More enemies? Nah, I'd just have the same enemies, but with Haste cast themselves. :]

They made it expensive though...

Either way, it meant that the wizard and sorcerer were really stealing the show.

Am I the only DM who constantly has players complaining:

"There's nothing my character can do."
"My character is always getting overshadowed."
"I want my character to be able to do something nobody else can do."
