at this point in time I have 274 3.0/3.5/D20 OGL books. I have read 99% of them.

[Edit]
From previous D&D incarnations I have 230 or so. (Not every book is cataloged at this time) I have read them all.

Wow! And you're 'just a player'? ;)

I think my entire RPG collection is about 250 books.

I read every book unless I buy it only to find out that it sucks. I may even read those books that suck if the topic is one that I am interested in.

I don't read every article of Dungeon or Dragon.

It seems a bit odd to me that people would buy a book and then just stick it on their shelf. To help me not get too many books I read ever RPG book I get cover to cover. I'm curious how many other people do that? And why do people get books they don't read?

I skim everything I buy, and read about 30% cover to cover right away.

As for why, two reasons. One I'm an obsessive collector and I get my books cheap.
Second, I buy books I know I will use at some point but not right now. If I am running a beginning campaign, I'll buy a high level adventure for later, or a sourcebook for something that I might only stick on the other side of the world... that sort of thing.

Or in the case of the HERO books I buy, I get the genre stuff of the games I don't play know, because I know, at some point, I will, and if I already have the books it makes it easier.

Why would you collect something you found bland?

Well at that time I still collected all things D&D (back when I was rich and had no kids ha ha).
I had also hoped I would like the setting better after a few more books came out, but that didn't happen.
Now I just get the books I really want. I skim them as soon as I get them then go back for a more thorough reading later.

I want to read things cover to cover and do so systematically (currently 300 pages into Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary) but not rapidly.

However I have a large backload and keep getting things. All of what I buy now are pdfs and most of what I buy now are things I have in print (so I can copy and paste and get better functionality out of the vast amounts I do have) and things on big sale that I'm interested in (picked up four malhavok books last night). Things I have not read cover to cover I have skimmed for the parts that interest me and consider them reference books I can go to when I want to check things out on their subject (for instance if I want a wilderness night encounter I pull up the EN Critters campfire pdf and click through the appropriate CR monsters for ones that inspire me).

Absolutely on reviews. The problem is I buy far more products than I can review in a month (here and elsewhere). I can normally do about 2 per week, and have been doing so for almost a year, but the pile of pdfs just keeps getting bigger.

Get out of my mind!

And then the time it takes to write the review... ugh!

I'm not quite sure which poll option to take - I buy way more books than I can ever read, but I inevitably find something while skimming the books that I will use in a current game.

So, I skim each book but only read parts of them is my answer.
