Have you ever had a chance to meet a celebrity?

I have met a number of celebrities and notables.
I had the luck of growing up with a well known golfer for a grandpa.
Some of the more interesting people in sports I have met have been Arnold Palmer and Jack 'the golden Bear' Nicklas.
I felt bad cause after shaking Jacks had he didn't win a turny for about 7yrs :( ...probably just a coinidense.

Magic:
I met Lance Burton in Vegas and I must say he is one of the nicest celebrities I ever met. He is still a regular guy despite his fame. If you ever meet him ask him about 'the Copperfield' incident.

Star Trek:
George Takei was in town for a Star Trek con and I met him after he had been out running that morning. He was not only nice ..but he was willing to talk about just about anything. At the time he was writing his book and I asked him about that.

Magic:
Copperfield is waaay skinnier in person than on stage but he was prety cool to meet and talk magic with. He is willing to help you if you need it. Forgot to get the autograph ..as ususal.

I have to say most of the Celebs I have met have been very good people when i met them...but part of that could be that I was more interested in them than just gettting an autograph.

Matial Artists:
Steven Segal before he got famous....man he hits hard during sword practice.
Chuck Norris is or was a nice guy when I met him. He was teaching us ground fighting techniques and talked about Bruce Lee.
Dan Insanto first student of Bruces and a really cool guy as well. Man that guy knows allot about fighting.

Oh and a word of advice if you ever meet Penn & Teller.....be prepared for anything. Those guys are truely unique. Penn is really into computers and he plays an occasional game of D&D. He said that he liked NWN he played it til he beat it.

The best advice my Grandfather gave me about meeting celebrities is to treat them like people not objects or icons.
Maybe that is why I always forget to get those autographs.

Dennis Hopper who scared the daylights out of me when I walked into the London Film Festival screening of The Hot Spot and he greeted me with open arms. Actually it was for the guy behind me.
The guy who played Pin Head in Hellraiser

Dave Zenz who has had some gaming stuff published is a friend and he and Paul Buss took me around TSR in Lake Geneva. Met Colin who did Dragon Mountain and Slade.

Well, Captain Lou Albano lives in my old home town. He used to be involved with wrestling and he was in Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video. I bumped into him a few times and even sold him cigarettes once.

When I was a golf caddie, my local country club was having a big tournement. In the same day, I caddied for David Hasselhoff and Dick Clark. Mike Ditka (sp?) was there as well, but I never saw him.

Also, I met Bill Murrey... probably 9 years ago? Groundhog Day was filmed entirely in my home town, and he was REALLY cool. Very down with the locals. When he wasen't filming, he didn't hole up in his hotel or anything. He basically just hung out around my small town and chilled with the locals. Super great guy. I also stole some of the fake snow from the set. I have it in a ziplock bag to this day :)

I've met a few celebs at conventions.

Kevin Smith...just said hi in passing, He was also with SteveBob, and Fanboy.

George Takei..(Almost got to go to the airport to pick him up for the convention, but I had to work)

Rode up in an elevator with 3 of the women from the Lost in Space series. (Can't remember names right now)

Chatted with Erin Gray (Buck Rogers, and Silver Spoons) for about 30 minutes at Megacon in Orlando Florida last year. Very nice lady, but I could tell that she was REALLY bored.

Pete Sampres (sp??) & Wade Boggs used to shop at the grocery store that I worked at when I was in high school. I'd bagged thier groceries.. Pete bought a lot of bottled water

And had grilled cheese sandwiches with Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) one afternoon. We talked about an appearance he did in the Washington DC area. The convention hall was a renovated parking garage, was probably one of the WORST conventions I've been too. As I recall Mr. Mayhew didn't like the convention either...kept having to bend over to miss the ceiling beams.

I got autographs from David Copperfield and Davy Jones. Didn't talk to either of them. My uncle and his wife were vacationing in Hawaii and went parasailing and ended up on the same boat as Matthew Perry. Got him on video too, looking suitably annoyed. :D Some parts of The Fugitive tv show were filmed across the street from where I used to live, and I saw the guy who played Bubba in Forrest Gump. Had I more courage at the time, I could have talked to him, he was being chatty with locals who came to gawk at the shooting. :D
