Hi,

When 3e first came out I bought a lot of stuff -- mostly adventures. I'm now much more picky, checking reviews on ENWorld etc because I have a ton of stuff I'll never use. I still buy a lot of WotC books, but I skipped Complete Warrior after looking at a friend's copy and only bought Unearthed Arcana yesterday when I couldn't ignore the almost unanimous positive feedback and reviews.

This year so far, I've bought Player's Guide to Faerun, Unearthed Arcana, Black Sails Over Freeport, Chaositech and Book of Fiends plus Dragon and Dungeon every month. The main difference is that I'm happy with all the stuff I've purchased.

So, I'm still buying a couple of books a month and, since they tend to be expensive hardbacks, I'm probably still spending the same amount. Maybe even more, as I tend to buy the odd Archfiends booster when I go to the FLGS.

Cheers

I'm buying more RPG books now than before D&D 3rd edition came out, four years ago. It has to do with me finishing college and getting a job. Also, only a small percentage of the RPG material I buy is D20. Most of it is World of Darkness material.

I am one of the few who voted that my spending has remained stable. In general I am not a big spender in RPG, and quite careful before purchasing books. I am very lucky because I have friends who buy basically all the books in the WotC's line and many others, and so when I want to read the book before buying I can always borrow it from them :)

Remained stable (assuming I don't count the miniatures). I've generally only bought the WotC material, with a few notable exceptions (Tome of Horrors, Necropolis, etc.)

Cheers!

Just right now, I am buying less, because it's hard financially speaking. However, on the overall I think I buy as much stuff as ever.

There is however a great difference: now, I know that I buy stuff just for the pleasure of it, like I would of a comic book, while I am well aware that I will never use anything of it in the game. I bought many supplements, but never found the opportunity to use them in the campaign I run. Only basic corebooks have proved useful so far. One thing is certain though: I am ever less inclined to buy Wotc stuff, and always more to buy third-parties games. For example, I am going to buy Medieval Handbook and Relic-Ritual Excalibur, and maybe also the pdf Arthurian Setting, just because I love these eras for play, and that pure DnD 3.5 is not really appropriate for this kind of setting. Likewise, I like to buy d20 sci-fi stuff and have many.

My spending has gone up. This is tricky, however. I am still committed to the products of one publisher (Necromancer), buy regularly from another (Troll Lord Games), but I have shifted the majority of the money to acquiring out of print 3rd party stuff from the late 70s and early 80s. Even some magazines. That's pretty good for me, less so for the d20 industry. ;)

Granted, there are a lot of more high profile projects that are gearing up to be released: the Wilderlands, Arneson's Blackmoor, EGG's Hall of Many Panes module... In that case, I'll again cut back on the old (if they waited so long, they can wait a little more) and buy more new.

My purchases have actually gone up in the past year and a half. I think it has to do with well, frankly a pretty good set of products (or at least interesting products) that have been available - Iron Kingdoms, X-Crawl, Spycraft, etc. Though my purchase of WotC items has not exactly been high. I bought the Book of Vile Darkness and that may have been it.
