Heads up: Baldur's Gate II patches 2007

Yeah, I got past that one, though. I played it until the lizardmen with a bazillion attacks a round and the traps in their stronghold annoyed me too much. I may finish it some other time.

I dropped it after I picked up the mage in the slaver ship, and then he met Blush and ran off with her. When I went to pick the two up, she was not there and the thread broke again. After that, the annoyance factor was just too much and I deleted the game and am now trying a NWN mod.

BG II is still my all-time favorite CRPG hands-down. The NPCs in the party for me are what puts the game head and shoulders above all others. the NPC v. NPC interactsion and the NPC/PC romances are priceless.

Certain NPC combinations are pure gold. Edwin & Minsc, Viconia and well, everyone! In terms of well written dialogue, Viconia wins for me. Jan Jansen comes in second place. Mazzy and Valgyar made me yawn. Sometimes Aerie, Nalia, Jaheira, and Yoshimo can be irritating but they are certainly in character.

I really wish IWD and NWN had done the same.

Are there any other games out there with a party of interesting NPCs for the PC to lead?

I still have fantasies about Aerie... That sweet voice!!! Oh my goodness!!!
You are right. The NPC/NPC and PC/NPC interaction tops anything before or since. Pleeeeeeeaaaaassssseeee Lord let them have the sense to make a BG III!!!

BG2 is... old?
In computer gaming any game over 2 years is old, 4 is ancient. RPG's tend to age better than most all other games - notable exception being puzzle games like Tetris whose graphics are aside the point.

There's a project afoot on the NWN2 boards to rebuild BG in the NWN2 toolset. Talk about biting off a huge bite (even if NWN2 will import the sound files from BG still).

I thought I was weird because I had a thing for Nalia. :heh:

Somehow I don't see a BIII happening :( But I'd love to play CRPG like it with updated graphics!

I think the company that made BG2 isn't around anymore, making a BG3 tough. :(

Bioware made BG2, although it was published by Interplay under their Black Isle Studios label.

Bioware is still around and making games, although they don't hold the license for D&D. Interplay shut down Black Isle a few years ago, and then later folded altogether. Interplay held a license to some D&D/AD&D properties at one point, but lost the license and it was picked up by Infogrammes, who later bought the Atari name and trademark and publish all of their games under that name.

As far as I know, when Atari purchased the license for D&D computer games, they also acquired the rights to the Baldur's Gate franchise from Interplay -- although I could be wrong.
