Heal or Sign of Regrowth

Many people seem to think Heal is a little powerful. I was reading The Fir Domain (Slaine sourcebook) and in it is a spell called Sign of Rebirth. This is basically a heal spell that costs 75xp per hit die of target. I think that is an interesting balancing idea for the spell. Thoughts?

You'll spend a bit less than 7.5% of the XP needed to reach the next level using this on an equal leveled person... too high for my liking (though I think Heal is fine as is for non-epic, not really caring about epic rules at all myself). 13 1/3 castings would cost all of you your current level in XP, 1 per encounter by the standard 3E advancement rate. A bit too harsh, though I could see 25 to 20 XP/HD/cast as fair.

I think that is overcompensating. IMC, I changed heal so that it heals 1d8 damage per caster level, maximum 15d8. (The spell has no other effects.) That way, it is still a very potent healing spell, but it doesn't restore thousands of hit points with one fell swoop.
