healing HP's by resting

I could not disagree more. I consider two characters at zero hitpoints EQUALLY INJURED, no matter what their hitpoints are when fully healed. It just takes more damage to injure a fighter than a wizard...
A matter of perspective. I consider two characters at full hit points to be EQUALLY UNINJURED.
An illustrating example:
A wizard at 20/20 HP takes 8 damage, and is at 12/20 HP. He has lost 40% of his HP. Lets say that equals a broken rib. Then a barbarian at 40/40 HP takes 16 damage, and is at 24 HP. He also lost 40% of his HP. In my opinion that would again equal a broken rib, although the barbarian took twice the damage.
Alternatively, if 8 damage represents a broken rib, a wizard at 20/20 HP is at risk of being incapacitated by a few broken ribs. A barbarian at 40/40 is tough enough to shrug off several broken ribs and keep fighting.
This is why I also think HP should heal by percent. A broken rib heals at equal rates for both the wizard and the barbarian, but the barbarians rib is much tougher.
The heal-by-percent camp is saying the injuries are equivalent when the characters are at 0 HP, while the rules as written appear to favor the concept that their health is equivalent at full HP.

Since the low-hp players aren't going anywhere without their tanks to hide behind, I don't really see it necessary to give the fighters another advantage, in the form of faster healing.

I suspect that most of the heal-by-percent camp likes to play fighter-type characters. ;)

I fail to see why the first statement excludes the second (and vica versa). I agree with both.

I guess it all depends on how the DM playes the game. As I see it, two equal-level characters with full HP are equally fit to make it through the day. A 5th level wizard with 10 HP is better suited for combat than a 5th level barbarian with 10 HP. The latter example will be the case when spending days in a dungeon without clerics/rangers/paladins for healing.

Maybe. I, however, play a wizard myself.
