Heart of Artifice Temporary 2--Aethelus Alone

"It appears we are to be roughed up as it were." replies Aethelus before retrieving his sleep scroll and casting it on the enemies. He targets the two behind him first if necessary, but hopes to get all three.

"Right then, boss. Hmm, I wish I had like a little weapon or something. Ah well, let's see."

*Lana darts out towards one of the unsuspecting assailants with a loaded crossbow and grabs the bolt, which is almost like a mini lance for her. The attacker curses and attempts to grab her out of the air, but she flits backwards and stabs out at him with her bolt-lance, though she fails to connect with the improvised weapon. Meanwhile another assailant ignores the annoying flying construct and takes aim for Aethelus himself. The shot just barely goes wide before Aethelus can grab the initiative and reach over to incant his scroll. The enemies are not spaced in such a way that he can target them all, but he still manages to cast the spell on two of them, and one of them, the one who hasn't acted yet, drops into a deep slumber.*

*Lana tries again with her crossbow bolt, and this time her luck is better. As the tiny bolt stabs the assailant, his eyes become dull and he simply stands there, slack-jawed and unaware.*

*Cursing loudly, the final assailant fires off one last bolt at Aethelus as he flees with Lana threatening pursuit. As the bolt hits him, everything goes grey.*

~~~
"Boss? Hey Boss? Yoohoo, Boss?"
*Some time later, Aethelus's eyes flutter open.*
"Hey! You're awake! Whew, that was a close one. I chased them off, but I was afraid to range too far to look for help in case they came back," Lana explains.
*Aethelus finds himself resting in a simple but comfortable bed.*
(OOC: Yep, he took 3 damage from the bolt)
"I found some people that helped get you to a nearby inn. The proprietress seemed sympathetic, and all were aghast that there had been an attack by sentients on sentients in their city. Apparently, it basically never happens except in extreme circumstances. At first they thought it was 'Unforged', whatever that is, until I convinced them it was regular crossbowmen."
"Unforged? thats an odd term. I find my self greatful for the help of bystanders, though we cannot ignore your valiant stand Lana. Thank you for your efforts. I think I might need to speak with our helpers soon though. How long have I been out?"
"Thanks, boss. You've been out hours. It's evening now, and you missed a rather spectacular firefight between the castle, which apparently has secret eldritch cannons that come out, and Lady Jade's ship. It looks like we won, though. The ship disabled all of the cannons while leaving everything else intact. Looks like the Baron might have been playing both sides here."
"Yep, it went back to where it was before. Looks like the Baron decided to play nice once his strongarm tactics failed. The people still seem shocked about the event though. I think there have been rumours spreading about of various sorts, though I've mostly stayed here to guard you, so I don't know any details."
