Hellish Rebuke Question

I'm amused by the thought of one of your characters making this demand. I can just see someone arguing with a mini about it. :D

I think you meant players, though thanks for the amusing image.

*This post is supposed to be in an amused tone, not anything biting or angry or anything. I often come off abrasive and am trying to avoid that*

At least he didn't say one of his players was planning to jump off the roof to use healing surges. :)

Your character could avoid this simply by provoking AO's. This opens up the space for others to move around in combat - hello rogues.

The warlock could/should be using hellish rebuke while adjacent to enemies and walking through threatened squares to take damage and open up the the field for allies.

I totally allow a warlock to cut himself to cause Hellish Rebuke to go off. That said, it costs a standard action to do, so it's not like he's getting away with anything. He's giving up a few HP and some damage to avoid an attack roll, basically, and that's fine with me. IMC he takes 1d4 damage regardless of his strength or lack of such (your 8 STR doesn't help you avoid a deep cut when you're doing it yourself), and he can use any bladed weapon to do it -- he doesn't risk cutting his head off when he slices his hand on a greatsword, for example.

Oh, I just realized why some people might be against this. Note that the 'lock can't use his curse damage when he does this. As per the errata'd version of Warlock's Curse, you can only cause curse damage when you hit with an attack, not just any damage. The second hit from a Hellish Rebuke never causes curse damage.
