Hello ev'ryone... little question about Leadership

Okay... this is probably simple enough all of you guys shall laugh at me but...

In 3.0, I recall FOLLOWERS gained by the Leadership Feat could only have levels in the NPC classes... EXCLUDING adept.

In 3.5 i cannot seem to find a similar rule. Do you guys (and girls):

a) know whethere the rule IS still somewhere;
b) in any case think it's a needed rule?

I have read once here, that this rule has been dropped in 3.5.

And no, I don't see any reason for it either.

Allowing Followers to be adepts means giving the PC access to more healing, since even a level 1 adept follower gets to cast Cure Light Wounds a time or two daily.

I don't think this is too unbalancing, though. Mostly, the PC will not take followers into combat (or they'll be dead followers), so it's simply a bit of extra healing, when you're in the relative safety of your camp/castle/base of operations.
