Hello I am a sophomore in college, and I'm doing an essay in English on discourse communities, which is a fancy way of saying communities. I chose the DnD community and I need to do some research from the community. If these questions could be answered it would be greatly appreciate, and more than one answer for each question is more than welcomed.
1. What is a common shared goal in the community?
2. How long have youve been playing DnD, and how did you learn about it?
3. What do you like/dislike about the game?
4.Do you feel the game forces you to be creative?
5. How do you feel is the best way to introduce new players to the game?
6. How do you communicate with other members from the group?

1. What is a common shared goal in the community?
To socialize and enjoy a hobby together.
To be creative, clever, and solve problems.
To create believable characters and have good drama with them.

2. How long have youve been playing DnD, and how did you learn about it?
30ish years. First learned abotu at summer camp when I was a child.

3. What do you like/dislike about the game?
I enjoy this edition of D&D because it is streamlined and lets us have a common set of rules to play but doesn't get in the way of having fun. I dislike that 90% of the character building is about combat and wish it had more mechanics around the roleplaying section.

4.Do you feel the game forces you to be creative?
Absolutely, both as a player and a a Dungeon Master.

5. How do you feel is the best way to introduce new players to the game?
Dive right in with some people who know how to play. The community is generally very welcoming to new players.

6. How do you communicate with other members from the group?
The specific groups I play with get together in person every other week, and we use primarily email between those. For the community-at-large forums like ENWorld are my preferred method. Gaming stores also are a great hub to meeting and talking to fellow gamers.

These questions are fair if a community is "people who use a product, but in all other ways are completely unrelated to each other." That's not how I define a community.

"Discourse community" sounds more like ENWorld to me, than D&D. Which might change both the questions and answers a bit.
