Help a guy please.

Our DM is getting ready to run us through the Sunless Citadell series thing. I will either be playing a Elven archer or a Cleric. I can handle making the elf myself but I'm asking for help on making the cleric. I'm asking for suggesting on making the cleric from the ground up. I want him to be good and focus on healing with the ability to be able to hold his own in combat.

Fisrt level.
Human or Elf.
Rest of party will be a monk, sorceror, and a fighter or barbarian.
Abilities 18, 16, 14, 14, 13, 12 (High yes but I did not make this thread to get in a debate on powergaming.)
My preferred arangement on abilities is as follows but I'm open toi suggestions.
Str 14
Dex 14
Con 16
Int 12
Wis 18
Cha 13

Try a Dwarf. Naturaly you'd worship whatever pantheon your setting's in, like Moradin. I'm pretty sure you could then take the Strength and/or Good, and I'm pretty sure War's listed for the 'main' Dwarven God as well. War/Strenght should give you domain spells that'd enhance your combat effectiveness (at the expense of magical attack/healing power. Good domain spells are, if I remember rightly, of the Cure types, always a plus in a group with only one healer. And more CON = more HP, always good if you insist on wading into fights now 'n again.

Down-side, you're going to take a 'hit' on your CHA stat, and thus it'll hurt your ability to turn. This could be off-set by the fact that you seem intent on dealing with opponents in a more direct and first-hand manner anyhow ;) You wouldn't even have to put a high score in STR as you could easily get access to magical STR enhancement, either in items you find along the way or self-buffing.

I'd suggest looking into picking Scribe Scroll at a very early level. Having that extra healing or buffing spell when your daily alotment are all used up could (literally) be a life-saver. If you were Human you'd have a 'spare' feat and wouldn't have to give up your only first level feat for an ability you wouldn't really be able to use for a level or two anyhow (ie: You need to build up gp and exp to 'burn' making scrolls).

You don't remember right. With the book in front of me, they are Conjuration (Healing) spells. No alignment subtype.

Evil clerics can cast these spells too, they just don't get to spontainiously prepare them. Same with good clerics casting cause wounds spells, they can cast, but have to prepare first.

Though I think Dwarf is a good idea. I'm considering a Dwarven Fighter for my next PC, as I've never played one before. But that Straingth domain has always looked good to me.

This is my quick take (about 10 minutes with PCGen).
I'm not sure if you were supposed to include racial modifiers in the base stats you gave but I included them anyways.

With Precise Shot, point blank and weapon focus he makes a pretty decent archer and not too easy to hit either...

Only problem is that you probably don't have enough gold to equip him with both a longbow and a chainshirt....

Ysgarran.

Domains are everything to a cleric.

What campaign world are you using (i.e. what pantheon) and what domains are therefore open to you?

A cleric with the War Domain gets a free weapon focus which is nice for adventuring if you want to play a tough combatant type.

Standard PHB gods. We are also using all of the class books. Good cleric can give up ANY spell for a cure spell of the same level right? So I could memorize some inflict wound spells and if need be cast them as cure spells right? I'll probably jhust be using buff spells on myself while the sorc covers the rest of the party. Thanks for all the help. Keep it coming.
