Help - building L6 starlock alchemist

First Post
Hi, doing a build for a friend of mine. She wants a freedom fighter type character, throwing bombs about (or such like) with witch like powers...

The campaign she is playing in has some nobles floating about causing grief, elf nation (aka American indians) vs Humans (settlers).

Shes not played DnD before, so warlock seemed a good fit. Feel free to differ! I did think about wizard but possibly a little too fragile and I think strikers are easier to play for a first timer.

On her checklist:
charismatic
paralyze
bombs
human, elf or half elf.

The player knows all about Cthulhu mythos (hence star, although she'd be fine with infernal pact also), so I've built the rough shape below. Any advice on the stat block, feats I'm obviously missing etc. She doesn't want anything too complex.

Our campaign progresses slowly, so I wouldn't be too concerned with builds that go past 12 or so. Its taken us 9 (?) months to get to 6th...

Red Ruby
Half-Elf Warlock L6
Star pact
Eldritch blast - charisma

Starting ability scores:
Str:8 Con: 12 Dex: 13 Int:11 Wis: 10 Char:18
after L1 adjustment:
Str: 8 Con: 14 Dex: 13 Int: 11 Wis: 10 Char: 20
+1 to int, dex

Final scores
Str:8 Con:14 Dex:14 Int:12 Wis:10 Char:20

Trained skills:
Arcana (int), Bluff (Cha), Insight (Wis), Streetwise (Cha)

Feats:
Action Surge
Alchemist
Improved Fate of the void
Improved Initiative

Powers:
At will
L1: Eldritch blast
L1: Eyebite (should be Dire Radiance really)

Encounter
L1: Glow of Ulban (dr 366)
L1 Half elf bonus: Ray of Frost
L3 Hands of Ihbar (dr 366)

Dailies
L1: Dreadstar
L6: Hunger of Hadar

Utilities
L2: Ethereal stride (or Beguiling tongue)
L6: Dark ones own luck

Gear:
Sling, +2 rod, +1 bloodthread cloth, +2 elven cloak. This lot is really subject to change (its cos we started in a court setting originally).

Cheers!

Technically, choosing the Star Pact will give you Dire Radiance as your other at-will. I think it's a totally fine idea to let her take Eyebite, though, or to make DR cha-based.

EDIT: If you're having her take Ray of Frost, I'd pump up her Int more, at least to 16. Either that or grab a Bard at-will or something.

EDIT2: Yikes, cloth?! Warlocks get leather! And her AC is going to suffer without a decent Int. Suggested array: 8 12 12 16 10 16, bumped to 8 14 12 16 10 18.

I think the easiest to run class atm is the ranged/archer ranger.

But some notes on your warlock.
Ability Scores:
STR 8
CON 13 +2 race = 15
DEX 11
INT 16 + 1 lvl4 = 17
WIS 10
CHA 16 + 2 race +1 lvl4 = 19
I think it is better to get a higher INT because w/o you will have a very low AC and can't get better armor profs because your STR is so low. Furthermore, many pact based bonuses to powers are governed by INT.

Your dilletante power is not a good choice with your low INT you will not hit. And even with the changed ability scores I would choose something else.

And as yesnomu said you're bound to dire radiance as second at-will because of your pact.

If you want comments on every parts of your char as wells as tipps to improve it, I recommend the WotC CharOp/Striker Board.

Thanks for your input... :)
Will ponder - I think you are right about the ac (having played an eladrin feylock at one point with high int I see your point). Feel free to throw more into the party.

Cheers

For the build, I would either

A) drop charisma a bit to bump up intelligence or
B) switch around Str and Dex to be able to get chainmail (instead of improved initiative)

As already mentioned, Ray of frost is rather pointless with 11 Int. I'd find something else, or do A. Even then I think for a Starpact warlock who mostly has single target spells, Scorching Burst would be a better option to give them an AoE encounter power.

And I'll agree with archer ranger being the easiest class to run.
