Help - how to build a cleric/rogue?

In our games we occassionally use the "apprentice level" rules in the DMG 3.0. You basically take half a level of two classes at the same time. It is on page 40 of the 3.0 DMG.

You have to choose a primary class, and you get the HP and skill points (and skill set) of that class at first level, and at 2nd you take the HP and skill points(and skill set) of the secondary class. You get all weapon & armor proficiencies from both classes, and you get some limited spell casting - you can cast 2 zero & 1 first level spells (bonus spells do apply), but your turn undead is treated as if you were zero level - I think you can still do it, but you don't have a level to add to the rolls for turning. You would end up with a 0 attack bonus, +1 fort, +1 ref, and +1 will save. At 2nd level you would adjust that so you'd have the saves and attack bonus that a cleric 1/rogue 1 would have. You wouldn't get sneak attack dice until 2nd level, either.

Anyway, it would preserve flavor and give you the skill points at first that you need. Good luck!
