Help me break in my 3.5 books! (3.5 Q&A)

They do have them all in a handy table...

Search -> Survival (tracking)

The rest are all as in 3.0, I believe.

So tracking is based on Survival, not Search, right? I was not sure that folks straightened this out; I thought it was Search, but it looks like I'm wrong. Not the first time.

3.5 PHB Monks and stunning fist.

So now they get a choice of stunning fist or improved grapple feats, not an independent class ability. Are they like ranger pseudo feats in that they are limited by armor but need not meet prereqs?

Can you give the details on these two feats?

Do monks still get evasion at level 1?

Monk's armor/shield

What is the new language regarding a monk's use of armor and/or shield? The old language was a bit sloppy and strict reading allowed the use of a shield but not armor, though many felt that shield was meant to be included with armor.

Monks do not need to meet prerequisites for their feats, but do not lose them when wearing armor - they only lose speed bonus, AC bonus, and flurry of blows.

Stunning Fist has a save DC of 10 + 1/2 HD + Wis modifier, and you can use it once per every 4 levels, no more than 1/round. (In the Special section, it says that you get 1 use per monk level rather than per every 4.) There's also clarification of what can't be stunned - constructs, oozes, plants, undead, incorporeal, and creatures immune to critical hits.

With Improved Grapple, you do not provoke an AoO when makign the touch attack to start a grapple. You also gain a +4 on all grapple checks, regardless of whether you started the grapple.

EDIT: Forgot to answer the evasion question - monks get it at level 2, and improved evasion at level 9.

I'll do a bunch all in one here.

Could you say what the spell Owl's wisdom does?

Just like all the other stat buffs - +4 to the stat for 1 minute/level.

Did the aging categories for PC races change?

Not that I can see - I didn't check every entry, but of the 5 or 6 I did, they were all the same.

What is the new language regarding a monk's use of armor and/or shield?

"When wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a monk loses her AC bonus, as well as her fast movement and flurry of blows abilities."

The special abilities do not appear to suffer spell failure anymore, though - you can now use quivering palm with impunity when clad in full plate.

So tracking is based on Survival, not Search, right?

Right. You can still find tracks with Search, but you cannot follow them (just as in 3.0).

In Olgar's compilations it says SF gives -2 to AC, is that all SF does now (no dex or action loss)?

Do barbarians get uncanny dodge at levels 2 and 5 that stack with other UC? I know trap sense has been broken out as something different. (+1 on trap reflexes every three levels).
