Do stunned characters still drop what they were holding?

Yes. WotC posted the Conditions summry, and this was on it. My books are on the way, so there is a small (very, very small) chance that this is inaccurate as I have not seen it published in the DMG yet.

Stunned creatures do indeed drop everything held.

Pielorinho,

Any chance you could post the list for Summon Nature's Ally I-III?

SNAI: Dire rat, eagle, monkey, octopus, owl, porpoise, sm viper, wolf
SNAII: Black bear, crocodile, dire badger, dire bat, sm elemental, hppogriff, md shark, md viper, squid, wolverine
SNAIII: ape, dire weasel, dire wolf, giant eagle, lion, giant owl, satyr (no pipes), lg shark, constrictor snake, lg viper, thoqqua

and what the heck,

SNAIV: juvi arrowhawk, brown bear, giant crocodile, deinonychus, dire ape, dire boar, dire wolverine, md elemental, flamebrother salamander, sea cat, hg shark, hg viper, tiger, juvi tojanida, unicorn, minor xorn.

I'm a bit disappointed at the disappearance of elemental critters like salamanders and xorn from the Summon Monster lists, though. I suspect they were trying to separate them more, but the wizard's list seems more animal focused than the druids!

Can a wizard voluntarily "give up" a familiar without losing EP?

No.

Any chance you could post the list for Summon Nature's Ally I-III?

1: Dire rat, eagle, monkey, cotopus, owl, porpoise, snake, wolf

2: black bear, crocodile, dire badger, dire bat, ele, emtal (small), hippogriff (!), M shark, snake, squid, wolverine

3: apre, dire weasel, dire wolf, Giant eagle, lion, giant owl, satyr (w/o pipes), L. shark, snake, thoqqua.

Any new animals/vermin (otter? dire otter?)

The list is pretty extensive; I'm not going to go through page by page. Nothing jumps out in particular, but there's so much there's probably some new stuff. No otters, though.

The argument given in 3.0 for why the permanent spells were more expensive and easier to 'destroy' than items: They require no feat and use no item slot.

It looks like they didn't change their stance.

Yeah. I wish they would have made permanency a feat instead of a spell. It made sense in 2e when all you had was spells, but not anymore.

I suppose it was a sacred cow.
