Nets are one of those overlooked weapons and you can tinker with the size and add magical enhancements/spells to them to accomplish a wide array of stuff. Think of a +1 net of dimensional anchor. You get the group caught in the net and then pound the snot out of them with clubs, dealing non-lethal damage, of course. If you have some PCs that manage to elude the net trap waiting for them, being split from the rest of the party makes them easier for the thugs hiding in wait to subdue them as well.
Capturing PCs will definitely piss the players off, but hey, you asked, so I've provided the first nugget that came to mind.
BTW, I've done the capture the PCs scenario (by accident, actually) before and it worked out really well. The group actually really dug the twist it brought to the campaign. Planning their escape was really rewarding and allowed them to do a lot of planning, scheming, and role-playing. Plus, there was the imminent threat that they might be the next slave to be dragged down to the slave-fighting pits to match their skills against some unholy menace from the depths of the earth. It was quite fun.
