Help me come up with a character concept!

I'm kinda dry here folks. I want to play something a little different. I don't want to play a pious human paladin, a dim-witted half-orc barbarian,a nature loving elven ranger, or a sneaky halfling rogue, or anything "typical" (not that there are any problems with playing something "typical"). I want all you fine and imaginative folks to help me come up with a concept. Nothing crazy, and nothing long, just a few lines and something signature...be it an exotic weapon, and personality type, or some uncommon fetish (not that kind of fetish!).

It's for a homebrew that the DM is allowing us to help create. Whatever we want, within certain parameters, is fine. Starting Level is 5. Everything from the PHB, and the Complete books are ok, and he's also allowing the various subraces. If we want a more exotic race, he'll allow it if it's neat. Also, he's open to most classes from AU/AE. We don't have Unearthed Arcana, but we've been talking about getting it.

I already came up with a few concepts, but none of them are really screaming out to me. Here they are.

Zurik Stoneskin: Male Dwarven Battlerager (barbarian). Carries a longspear and a dwarven battleaxe. Ritually scars himself for every foe he has killed. Spikes his hair and beard with dung. A bit off kilter.

Deiro Domeno: Male Human Wizard. A pit of a pyromaniac (loves fire based spells). He is in his early 40's and he's a rampant gambler, womanizer, and alchoholic.

Oriseus: Tiefling Male Unfettered. I don't really have a character concept for this...I just keep on seeing an albino with a spiked chain as his signature weapon.

No offense, but the battlerager doesn't jazz me either. Scarification is always neat, but it isn't grabbing me.

How about making this guy a half-orc?

As long as you're willing to go +1 ECL, why not be a gnoll for this guy?

Other concepts:

Monk-4/Paladin-X ... more of a "contemplative" zen guy. Not really pious per se. Just very, very thoughtful. Talk like Morpheus from the Matrix. That kind of thing.

Cleric (Air, Water) - Kind of a chaotic storm guy. I don't know where I'm going with this. Just that a "blasty" cleric couldn't be all bad. Ask your DM if you can pretty-please take a feat and spontaneusly cast cause wounds with the lightning descriptor.

Barbairan-1 or 2/Cleric X half-orc - I only mention this because I played that and loved it. A nice low INT and putting the "fun" back into fundamentalism. He's not real preachy, as far as he's concerned more sinners means all the more paradise for him. You get to be loud and obnoxious and at the same time stop to pet bunnies or whatever. In hindsight, I kind of played him like "The Tick" (if you're familiar with that cartoon).

Happy gaming!

Have you played a Gnome Bard? :uhoh:

How about a Gnome TWF'er? They get weapon familiarity with the Gnome Hooked Hammer thing, which is interesting. Or a Halfling Fighter/Barbarian? I'm playing a Halfling in Eberron who uses the Valenar Double-Scimitar against the Elves... kinda neat. TWF is much better with the Improved Buckler Defense feat (Complete Warrior), which means you can get a shielf bonus.

Dwarf Sorcerer? Races of Stone has an interesting racial substitution level for it. The Battlesmith is a Dwarven Fighter who has a little more color to him.

Half-Orc Druid. They're in touch with nature, anyway. At least, that's how I often see them. Half-Orc Ranger goes the same way.

I like the paired PrCs from the Complete Adventurer too. Daggerspell Mage/Shaper, Nightsong Encorcer/Infiltrator, and ... I forget the last two. The Paladin/Rogue-Cleric/Rogue pair. They're very neat.

This seems quite similar to my Alienist[Complete Arcane] Lucifus Cray. While Lucifus has focused more on summoning and conjuration rather than evocation, they share a fondness for blowing things apart. I suggest you maybe read the story hour in my sig for some funny ideas along these lines. I focused on high intelligence, charisma and constitution, ultra low wisdom (boy this is fun to roleplay) and average dexterity and strength. He uses Leadership to gain a half-orc "bodyguard" as well as to fill out his harem. All in all, a lot of fun.

Two words (provided by Pogre) sums him up perfectly - pure chutzpah. Incredibly fun to roleplay with the fine line between high intelligence and low wisdom interesting to explore. The Alienist class is not that powerful compared to some but it certainly is not bad. Good if you want to play something different - I normally play paladins, fighter types and so forth so it was good as a fun change.

I thoroughly recommend the wizard and possibly alienist path.

Best Regards

CG Half-Orc Rogue 3/Fighter 2- A knife fighting specialist who used to be a professional street fighter. Has to flee his home city when he loses all his money on a rigged fight and can't pay off his outstanding debts. Dresses in all red studded leather and has some sort of flamboyant hair. Feints, dodges, and tumbles through combat.

NG Halfling Transmuter 5- The orphaned child of a glassblower, this compassionate young wizard adventures to gain the knowledge and experience to restore his hometown to its former glory. Takes mostly item creation and metamagic feats to aid in his magical study. His speels tend to be practical in nature, and he is always scribing scrolls in his spare time.

LN Goblin Drid 5- After his tribe is decimated by a plague, this shaman follows the guidance of his ancestor spirits and enters the outside world. With his faith in nature shaken to its core, he strives to understand why everything he loved was taken from him. Riding his trained wolf mount and weilding poisonous darts, he is compelled to save others from the kind of suffering and lose he has experienced.

Warlock Warlock Warlock!

Human warlock with high INT and CHA, focus on people skills. Don't forget your beguiling influence. Get the most out of that +17 or so you'll have on Bluff/Diplomacy :) He's a nice guy with a charming personality... except he is the great grandson of a succubus. (his mommy was a tiefling, her mommy was a half-fiend, and her mommy was the succubus) Play as CG who rarely follows the rules and uses his natural charm and wit to get what he wants. Think "Face" from A-Team. :) (and that Eldritch Blast makes you a half-decent archer in dungeon crawling)

After thinking long and hard, I have come up with a character concept that NO ONE has EVER thought of before:

An exiled Drow, with a good alignment, a ranger, uses 2 scimitars. ;)

Half-elf Barbarian/Rogue split. More barbarian than rogue though. Take Improved Unarmed Strike and use fisticuffs as main weapon. Perhaps brass nuckles too. Actually, I think it would be cool if you could get magical hand-tape that you see bare-knuckle fighters wear. Like Hand-tape +2 or something :) Might pick up a weapon if it proved to be handy in a situation.

Anyway, this guy is a real pisser. Looks kinda skinny/wussy, but is really just a big ball of muscles ready to explode! He was/is a regular at <insert local tavern> and thats where the rogue levels come in. He's a people person at heart in a way. He is proud of his elf blood and makes sure everyone else knows it. Has short "buzz cut" hair and really toned body.

Here's a concept I came up with but haven't gotten around to playing yet.

Warlock/Ranger who hates his heritage and has chosen it as his primary favored enemy. He tries to ignore the magic welling up in his blood but just finds it expressing itself subconsciouiusly anyway.

My suggestion for 5th level would be Ranger 2 / Warlock 3.

I had a lot of fun with this concept, but never actualy played it...

Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by elves. He adapted to their culture naturaly, and enjoyed studying magic. Unfortunately, he matured much faster than may that he grew up with, and his teachers encouraged him to leave and explore the world. So, thus began the adventures of Landu Silvertree (or some other elven name), the clean-shaven dwarven wizard.

Beyond the chuckles you might get, you get a fairly non-standard character. A "high cultured", wine drinking dwarf who shaves and relates better to elves than other dwarves.
