Help me create a paladin's code checklist!

But, throwing back a shot won't make you lose your paladinhood. Getting fall down drunk, however, will.

A Paladin of Heironeous shall not drink! However, if he should drink, he shall not get drunk! If he should get drunk, he shall not stagger! If he should stagger, he shall not fall down! But if he should fall, he shall fall so as to cover up his holy symbol, so that passers-by will think he's a Contender of Kord!

Which is more important: the greater good that may occur in time, or the good act that only I can do, right now?

Can I sacrifice 1 to save a hundred?

At what point is mercy not becoming an enemy?

Must I always take people at their word, or is it enough to give everyone the benefit of the doubt once, and then judge based on past performance?

It's probably worth saying that not all paladin orders should be identical. A paladin of Mithra must be chaste and never drink, while a paladin of an earthier order might have married hard-drinking paladins.

What would a paladin code based on Superman look like?

Mission vs Serendipity: If while questing for the Sword of Ultimate Goodness so I can defeat the Big Evil Intent On Destroying the World, I run across someone who needs help (kitten in tree, lost children, bandits raiding a village), am I obliged to interrupt my quest? Does the answer change if there is other sufficiently capable help available that can arrive in a timely fashion?

If you use the Book of Exalted Deeds, what's the difference in conduct between a lawful good cleric, a paladin, and a lawful good exalted wizard (who all worship the same god)?

What's the best paladin example you can think of from literature/fiction? What's the worst?

If one of your players had been running Miho (from OotS), at what point would you have given a warning? What would it have consisted of? How many? Was Miho's final act as a paladin atoneable?

What's your policy on Evil characters? How often have you run a campaign or adventure with evil characters?

Yeah, that was my lesser evil vs greater evil question. Can I ignore the bandits (allowing them to finish of plundering and raping) if I know that the delay involved in stopping them would prevent me reaching the Sword in time to stop the world being detroyed?

It ties in with Loincloth's "Can I sacrifice 1 to save a hundred?" as well.

Get the doo-dad, then come back and mop the floor with bandits using the doo-dad. It's all Good.
