Help Me Equip My 8th Level Wizard

I have managed to get out of the DM's seat for a few sessions and will be playing an 8th Level Wizard. I have never played a Wizard PC in any edition of the game so I am lacking a bit of knowledge in this area. I have the standard wealth (27,000gp) to equip my character and I was wondering what are some of the better items to go with.

So far I have thought a Headband of Intellect +2 (4k), Ring of Protection +2 (8k), Lesser Metamagic Rod of Extend (3k) Cloak of Resistance +2 (4k), various scrolls of spells that I don't want to waste a daily spell slot on (i.e. Knock, Comprehend Languages, etc.). None of these are necessarily set in stone.

I also plan to have a rather wide selection of spells in my spellbook. At 100gp per page per spell level this will easily eat up several thousand of my starting wealth so keep this in mind.

So what should I get?

Instead of scrolls of knock, get a wand of knock. (cheaper in the long term)

Remember to take into account your free spells per level. And strongly consider a Blessed Book, a free 1,000 pages of spells.

I can make scrolls of Knock myself with the Scribe Scroll feat that all Wizards get. However, I can't make a Wand of Knock as I don't have the Craft Wand feat. Even if I could I don't think that I would make a Wand of Knock since I would have to use the wand 30 times before it made it cheaper than just using scrolls instead (2,250gp to make vs. 75gp). I can't see myself using Knock that often to make the wand worth the cost.

I have remembered about my spells per level. Thanks for reminding me though. As for the Boccob's Blessed Book, it is a great item but for 12,500gp, it is too much of my 27,000gp budget at this point in time. If I was starting at 10th level I would definitely get it.

An Amulet of Health would shore up your hitpoints and fortitude save, both of which could probably use work.

It may be campaign dependent, but Eberron has a more affordable Blessed Book in the form of a magical spellshard. It has half the capacity and costs half as much.

Get a Boccob's Blessed Book anyway. The savings on scribing costs is huge. Do you have Craft Wondrous Items? See if the DM will give you a discount on items you can make yourself.

No I don't have the Craft Wondrous Item. There were too many other good feats to take and I don't know how much downtime there will be to enable me to make anything so I went for Empower Metamagic instead.

I know it's expensive but I would get a better headband than just +2. You want all your spell DC's as high as possible. I would make it +4 at least. Gloves of Dex, as stated shore up the poor will save and help you hit with ranged touch attack spells, and you AC. I wouldn't even consider the book at any level, but that's just my opinion. You also want as good a cloak or vest of resistance as you can afford. Remember what's good for you as a wizard is good for enemy spellcasters......

Personally I wouldn't worry about your AC. If the melee guy wants to hit you he will. The gloves of dex may be good, depends on how many ranged touch spells you have. Haver sack or bag of holding, you strength is probably low, so keeping your move up is a good idea. I always like some odd bits. Spool of endless rope. If you ca use it the MIC has some good cheap 'tools'.

I forgot to mention pearls of power. Nothing better for getting more spells off per day. They are relatively cheap and at least I found them to be very handy.
1st lvl =1k
2nd lvl= 2k
3rd lvl= 9k
