help me find a fire based sorcerer prestige classes?

Thanks for the various responses.

Darklone: I've got Relics & Rituals I and that had blood mage, sea witch, penumbral Lord, summoner and various others but no fire-using classes unfortunately.

I think the kind of thing that I'm particularly looking for are classes that have a transformational aspect, or that include fire resistance or something similar (that would fit the kind of direction "the cook" is going).

What housefeats did you use?

Li Shenron: unfortunately that sounds like it will be too far removed from the basic rules, so I don't think my DM would go for it. Thanks though!

Diaglo: I've not been able to see the Draconomicon yet, maybe someone else can give me a pointer there?

Dingleberry: The BoEM Embermage I should have somewhere (although I can't lay my hands on it at the moment). Wasn't that mostly about having survived being burnt alive and having flaming blood? I'll try to track that one down again.

Joshua/Stormborn: I know my DM gets Dragon regularly. I'll ask him what he makes of those, and if he thinks they would be good matches.

Has anyone seen the Scarred Lands "Wizards, Bards and Sorcerers" book? Anything good in there for fire sorcerers?

Cheers

Which of the Draconomicon PrC's is fire-based? Here they are -- copied from this thread

Dragon PrC's (i.e., the character must be a dragon)
Bloodscale Fury
Disiple of Ashardalon
Dispassionate Watcher of Chronepsis
Dragon Acendant
Elemental Master
Hidecarved Dragon
Sacred Warder of Bahamut
Unholy ravager of Tiamat

Other PrC's
Dracolyte
DragonKith
Dragonrider
Dragonslayer
Dragonsong Lyrist
Dragonstalker
Hoardstealer
Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries
Platinum Knight
Talon of Tiamat

PS,

Two I'd recommend for best fire based sorcery, Ember Mage from BoEM I and most recently, Adept of the Flame from Player's Guide to Wizards, Bards and Sorcerers. (Just replace the Tongue of Thulkas requirement with Ignan.)

Also PS, email me and I can see if I can help you out some more.

Hmm sorry for the R&R thingy... As soon as I am able to do something else but dropping into bed when I get home I'll look it up.

Housefeats:
Three feats in a chain, to take the first, you had to take Elemental Focus (fire) from the KPG.
- Taking the first feat meant you would never be able to cast spells with any other elemental damage except acid (somehow liked the fire acid mixture). As benefit, you got +1 effective caster level with spells with the fire descriptor. To take the feat, you had to undergo a ritual ... 100 XPs cost. Then you needed a special tattoo for every spell you wanted to cast with this feat.
- The second feat allowed you to hurt fire subtype creatures as if they had fire resistance 25 instead of immunity. Taking it several times lowered the resistance by ten each time
- The third feat gave you a +2 bonus on caster level checks to beat the SR of any creature with a fire based spell. Stacked with Spell Penetration.

Greetings from Diablo 2 ;)

i think it was the elemental master. it is a dragon PrC. but that's not stopping someone creative, like PS, from converting for PC use. ;)

Embermage, Fire elemental savant, and a conversion of the Psionics Handbook's Pyrokineticist to arcane magic are what came to my mind.

For reference, here is the Fire Bloodline feat.

Fire Bloodline
One of your ancestors was a creature of elemental fire....
Prereq: Ability to cast arcane spells without preparation, ability to summon a familiar.
Benefit: You gain a bonus spell known at each level, as follows.
1. Hypnotism
2. Pyrotechnics
3. Tongues
4. Fire Shield
5. Cloudkill
6. Summon Monster VI (fire subtype only)
7. Delayed Blast Fireball
8. Sunburst
9. Meteor Swarm
Good job on that article, Stormborn. It's like a Nestle bar: the perfect mix of flavor and crunch.

Now, this is not to be confused with the similarly named Bloodline of Fire feat.

Prereq:special - You may only take this feat at 1st level. Forgotten Realms region: Calimsham.
Benefit: You receive a +4 bonus on saving throws versus fire effects. You also add +2 to the DC of saving throws of any fire spells you cast. This benefit stacks with Spell Focus.

I hope this information is helpful.

Here's a quick conversion of the Psionic Pyrokinetic PrC:

Pyro-Arcanist

Role: Fire Mage

Prerequisites:
Skill Ranks: Knowlege (Arcana) 8+, Spellcraft 8+
Feats: Bloodline of Fire
Language: Ignan
Spellcasting: Ability to cast 3rd-level Arcane spells, including Fireball, Scortching Ray and Burning Hands

HD: d6
BAB: Moderate (as Rogue)
Good Saves: Fortitude, Will / Bad Save: Reflex
Skill Points: 2 + Int bonus
Class Skills: Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Intimidate (Cha), Knowlege (Arcana, Planes) (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).

Code:
[u]Level BAB Fort	Ref	Will	Spellcasting	Special Abilities[/u]
 1	+0	+2	+0	+2	-- Touch Aflame, Fire Lash
 2	+1	+3	+0	+3	+1 Level	Fire Resistance 10, Hand Afire
 3	+2	+3	+1	+3	-- Bolt of Fire
 4	+3	+4	+1	+4	+1 Level	Weapon Afire
 5	+3	+4	+1	+4	-- Breath of the Dragon
 6	+4	+5	+2	+5	+1 Level	Fire Wings
 7	+5	+5	+2	+5	-- Flame Nimbus
 8	+6	+6	+2	+6	+1 Level	Fire Resistance 20
 9	+6	+6	+3	+6	-- Heat Death
10 +7	+7	+3	+7	+1 Level	Elemental Form

Special Abilities:
  • Spellcasting: When an even level of Pyro-Arcanist is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in whatever arcane spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that she adds the level of Pyro-Arcanist to the level of whatever other arcane spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before she became a Pyro-Arcanist, she must decide to which class she adds each level of Pyro-Arcanist for the purpose of determining spells per day.
  • Touch Aflame (Su): The pyro's mere touch sets objects or foes on fire on the round following the touch, if you desire (you don't have to set things on fire). Unless the character's unarmed attacks are treated as melee attacks, this touch draws an attack of opportunity. The flame deals 1d6 points of fire damage, then dies out, though flammable materials may begin to burn in their own right, at the DM s option. It otherwise behaves like alchemist's fire, but there is nothing to wash off.
  • Fire Lash (Sp): The pyro-arcanist fashions a 15-foot-long whip of elemental fire as a move-equivalent action, by spontaneously converting a 1st-level (or higher) spell. The character takes no damage from a fire lash he or she creates, and if he or she releases her hold, it immediately dissipates. The lash deals 1d4 points of fire damage to the target on a successful ranged touch attack (up to 15 feet). The pyro-arcanist may take Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization (if of the appropriate class), or Weapon Finesse in conjunction with the fire lash, as well as feats for a standard whip.
  • Fire Resistance (Ex): The pyro-arcanist grows attuned to elemental fire, and gains the indicated level of resistance. This counts as a racial bonus (and stacks with any pre-existing racial bonus).
  • Hand Afire (Sp): At 2nd level, the pyro-arcanist can activate this ability by spontaneously converting a 2nd-level (or higher) spell. One of the pyro's s hands is licked by flames that do her no harm, causing her unarmed attacks to be treated as armed. Such attacks deal 1d6 points of fire damage in addition to any other special damage from the unarmed attack. Activating the ability is a move-equivalent action, and it lasts for 10 min/level (dismissable).
  • Bolt of Fire (Su): At 3rd level, the pyro can spontaneously convert prepared spells (or spell-slots) into bolts of elemental fire. This is a lesser version of the Archmage's Arcane Fire ability. Converting a spell into a bolt of fire is a standard action. The bolt has Long range, and deals 1d6/spell level + 1/Pyro level Fire damage if it strakes a target.
  • Weapon Afire (Sp): At 4th level, the pyro can activate this spell-like ability as a move-equivalent action. One weapon he or she holds (including a stone, bullet, arrow, or bolt) is licked by flames that harm neither the pyrokineticist nor the weapon. The weapon deals 1d6 points of fire damage, in addition to its normal damage, and stops flaming the round after the last activation.
  • Breath of the Dragon (Sp): Once per day the pyro can cast a Fire-substituted Cone of Cold spell. Furthermore, she may learn to cast this version as a 5th-level spell even if she lacks the Energy Substitution Feat (for example, if she's in 3.5e and the Feat does not exist).
  • Flame Nimbus (Sp): At 6th level, the pyro can activate this spell-like ability as a move-equivalent action, costing a 3rd-level spell. The pyro's entire body is licked by flames that harm neither the character nor her equipment. While aflame, the character's Charisma modifier (not score) increases by +4, the character can make melee touch attacks as with the hand afire ability, and gains damage reduction 10/magic. This ability lasts 10 minutes/pyro level.
  • Firewalk (Su): Beginning at 7th level, the pyro's Flame Nimbus allows her to literally walk on air. She moves at his or her normal speed in all directions, including vertically, but cannot move more than double his or her speed in a round. A firewalker leaves footprints of flame in the air that disperse in 2 rounds, but his or her tread does not deal damage.
  • Heat Death (Sp): A pyro who reaches 9th level can use this spell-like ability by sacrificing a spell or spell-slot of at least 4th level.. The effect is identical to Disintegrate, except the damage is Fire (not untyped), the DC is set by the level of the sacrificed spell, and it does not affect [Force] effects.
  • Fire Lord (Su): At 10th level, the pyro gains the supernatural ability to become a Large Fire Elemental once per day. She gains the elemental's special abilities when she does so. The transformation lasts for one hour.
